Hopefully she won't last 20/30 years and Alang will have her more quickly.

The MSC OPERA and LIRICA are an exception Doug because of all of them, MSC actually tried to make them look graceful.

No one will ever be able to do that with the MSC EPOPEA.

Perhaps the artist came up with these after the accident ?

You know I was thinking about this and aside from the obvious that it has to meet certain design criteria for stability it really isn't any higher than their existing villa blocks. It just looks much more awkward pushed to the front now you could argue on the stability of having that much weigh forward of the centerline but I think it will turn out to be more of a worrie than a reality. Time will tell

She's a Beluga Whale, do they have stability problems?

That's one unfortunate-looking ship. The styling doesn't exactly inspire confidence - it looks like it wants to tip over.

Quite right, but move it aft and whitewash the funnels and she's still a pig in lipstick.

I do agree it is not very pleasing to the eye...no argument there however there is no denying from an inisde looking out perspecitve the view from that cabin block will be spectacular. For the amount of time spent onboard looking out vs sitting on the pier looking back it may be a good gamble on their part

I don't think we doubt her sea-keeping 'stability', the problem is it one of esthetic's. However, I do doubt the designers stability, though.

i wonder how she will get on operationally with those lifeboats jutting out. they do look vulnerable to damage.

should be interesting to see in the flesh if rumoured southampton show-off comes to pass.

also anyone wanting to end their days at sea should choose their spot carefully, as there is a good chance they might just end up spreadeagled on top of a lifeboat.

Heres my re-design.

I think with a few relatively minor changes the ship actually doesn't look that bad.

I'm curious to discover the reason for the white block below the funnels. Anyone know what that is?

It's a weighted balance to counteract the forward superstructure.

They may be right about this Ernie....

1. Beautiful: Maybe on the inside....
2. Bold: That hideous thing above the bridge is a pretty bold design element.
3. Innovative: If all the "software" will be at a cost, it is truly innovative cruising experience. Also, that hideous Villa block is innovative too.

Remember, all of NCL newest ships (other than POA) have been based on Star Cruises original design for Nor. Star (keel laid as Superstar Libra).

It's too bad that NCL didn't use this design that Star had in the wings for a post-panamax ship:

This is actually very attractive.

I found some cool shots of the Norwegian Epic under construction at NCL

Also, I just completed an interview with Andy Stuart who is the Executive VP Global Sales and Passenger Services at NCL. You can listen to the show here.

As usual Barry, a nice job, but you were unfortunately unable to tease out any information that we had not already heard.

I would have liked to heard his opinions of the SS Norway and the Big U, but I assume that he would not have wanted to talk about them anyway.

I immediately picked up on the funnels.

Now that I think more about it, the "thing" over the bridge is also vaguely reminiscent of STARWARD.

Malcolm, I did talk with him off the air about the BigU. He said that Star is actually handling the sale of the ship, which has been transfered to a holding company set up by Star. They do want the ship to go to a buyer who will take care of the ship properly, they do not want to see the ship scrapped. Star, however, is asking an astronomical amount of money for the ship...they want $20 Million. I don't think they will get that kind of money.

Interestingly Epic will have smaller stabilizers than slightly smaller Fantasia or Splendida, in fact she will have smaller ones than the much smaller Musica class.

Either they are doing it on the cheap or they believe she will roll less ?

Exactly, the area above the bridge on the Staward et al was a bar and a ping pong area if I am remembering correctly, though of course now that I look at a picture of the Skyward it does dawn on me that the hump was far more towards the center of the ship...So Malcom was right, I am losing it.
