From Seatrade Insider:

"MSC Fantasia has been tapped to accommodate leaders for the 2009 Group of Eight summit in Sardinia -- which means it’s possible US President Obama may be among the presidents and prime ministers aboard MSC Cruises’ newest ship.
G8 leaders will gather in the Sardinian archipelago of La Maddalena July 8 to 10. France, the United States and Russia are represented by their heads of state, while the UK, Germany, Japan, Italy and Canada are represented by their respective heads of government.
The use of MSC Fantasia is part of the G8 commitment to a zero environmental impact summit.
La Maddelena is comprised of 60 mostly unihabited islands which retain a natural environment that serves as a magnet for sailors, scientists and naturalists.
During the summit, a range of measures will be taken to safeguard the environment. Among them is the use of MSC Fantasia, which earned ‘Six Golden Pearls’ from Bureau Veritas, confirming compliance with the highest environmental, health and safety standards.
The ship’s environmental components range from technology to cut electricity consumption in the staterooms and public areas to advanced wastewater treatment, waste recycling and non-toxic hull coating.
The precise location where the ship will moor for the summit remains to be decided. The area between La Maddalena and the island of Santo Stefano is being surveyed for the purpose."

MSC is following Festival's lead here, although it didn't help George Poulides to keep Festival afloat when he hosted G8 leaders aboard the new EUROPEAN VISION (now MSC ARMONIA) in Genoa back in July 2001!

Well if someone is looking to target them they could hardly miss !

I am sure GW will regret missing out on the Tex Mex restaurant. Can't see Gordon Brown being much good at karaoke either.

One good point, our President is normally invited to these things as a guest, our soon to be President after the April elections (JZ or Jacob Zuma in full but we all call him JZ) has a party piece song he has been belting out for years, its called "Bring me my machine gun" and he's quite good at it.

Perhaps MSC might tape it and use it in their shows.

Did they choose the ship name on purpose??? Well, I suppose the Titanic is long gone and there isn't an 'MSC Going to Hell in a Handcart'!!!
