Today we visited ss Rotterdam. She's wonderfull. I start working on my pictures right away.

We were already on her on September 25. You can find pictures from that visit overhere

I just looked at your latest images and all I can say is WOW! ss Rotterdam looks amazing and what great use for one of the dining rooms. It makes a perfect conference space and is so elegant. I also really like they newly created spaces w/the modern floorcoverings, furniture and fixtures. They coordinate beautifully w/the originals.

WOW.

Except for a few areas you show that I assume aren't finished yet, she looks like a brand new 50-year-old ship.

One question: what does the inscription on the bell in the fifth picture down on this page say? I can make out "Troy, N.Y.," but not the first part.

Fantastic pictures! Thank you so much for posting them. Now I have to go check airfares to Rotterdam in February!

Doug- I played around with the bell pic and I believe it says, "McNeely Bell" Not too sure about the "N", but that's my guess.

Just did a search and the name is "Meneely". The family started making bells in the early 1800's and continued until 1951.

Great pictures. Thank you.

I can see the HAL use of primary colours, which presumably stems from the fifties. I also see the 50s+++, a bit of a Scandanavian influence & even a touch of the Saga Rose. I bet that she was very modern in her decor, for the time, kind of like a 50s version of QE2!

Thanks Michael for solving that mystery. As the bell is obviously older than the ship, I wonder what its story is.

It would be even more interesting if the bell had been made in Rotterdam, NY, which is quite near Troy.

Wonderful, thanks Aad fore the honor to see the pictures first. last week I receive my invitation fore a visit on January 31 (The Line foundation turn to visit) A special day to because January 31 is also HM Queen Beatrix birthday as you know the Queen then Crown Princess sailing on the Maiden Voyage.
I believe Aad is also visiting here on January 30 with the Save the Rotterdam foundation. And after here opening February 15, I have a free tour ticket, as gratitude fore the Try-Out. Oh it would be a wonderful start of a new year.

WOW - she looks GREAT!!

Perhaps HAL's headquarters should dispatch their design team from VFD to take a look around and remind them what GOOD, sensible, TASTEFUL decor TRULY is instead of employing their current, tasteless interpretation of what good Dutch design is.

They were supposed to do it but from what I have seen, these images look nothing like the VFD drawings for various spaces like the Theater. I wonder if VFD went back to the drawing board (borrowing a bit from Y&S) or if they were replaced by another outfit with more of a Midcentury Mod sensibility.

No. VFD of Utrecht are the ones responsible for the restoration of the Rotterdam's interiors. They showed me around the ship on 12th December, explaining in detail all that had been done to restore the public rooms to their original 1959 appearance.

The theater is restyled back to here original design except fore the theater seats, they are replaced by the same new chairs also found in the La Fontaine and Odyssey dinning rooms.

You are right, but they have made some new design fore the ship, they have completely redesigned and refitted the Lido restaurant (former tourist Café de la Paix) added the honeymoon suite, new interior Skyroom (now wedding chapel) and made a new restaurant layout based on original furniture of the tourist Club Room (previous casino)
