I met today fellow CT'er Jekyll, on board the river cruise ship "River Empress" of Uniworld (for whom he works).

It was a very pleasant, though perhaps too short, meeting, with an extended visit to the ship, which is really quite a fabulous river cruiser, with almost a deep see cruiser feel. Must be wonderful to travel on it on Europe's rivers.

CT is an exceptional medium to meet people from all over the world, with the same intrest. 'Jekyll' is a very nice man.

Thanks Johan!

I must agree w/ him - CT is a great form for meeting people from all over the world with a common interest and then build a friendship from there!

Where was the internet when I was a teenager?????

We had a nice, albeit short, visit. While we only had an hour Johan managed to tour the ship and then join us in the lounge for a drink (maybe he'll post a picture).

The next morning we had a great tour of Antwerp and then that afternoon sailed to Heusden and Amsterdam.

I encourage all of you to post when you're going on your next cruise...you never know who you'll meet and what friendships will develop.

Pam,
thank you very much for posting this pictures !

It was surely very nice meeting Jekyll in person, on such a nice ship.

By coincidence, on a canal tour in Amsterdam this monday i passed the same River Empress moored behind the Centraal Station.

Thanks again, both to Jekyll, and Pam

Yesterday I met cruise talker Johan and his girlfriend in Antwerp. He invited me to his home and for an extensive tour of the cities harbour. Antwerp is an interesting place were old nostalgic building coincide with the impressive character of the industrial harbour. We also visited the remaining building of the old red star line, unfortunately there was no cruise ship docked at the terminal that day but we did see a couple of other ships docked and sailing around the harbour. Of course we discussed ships and Johan showed me some of his ship collection

I had the pleasure of having cruisetalker Dmitry stay with me in Philadelphia before his cruise on the Enchantment of the Seas.

We have met in California twice before.

We took a tour of the Main Line, lunch at a noted Jewish style deli, and a trip into Center City.
We walked through the historic neighborhoods with narrow streets and Civil War era buildings.

It is amazing how beautiful the city is, and re-noticed it through the eyes of a tourist who is seeing it for the first time. That evening we had drinks and dinner with 3 personal friends and all had a wonderful time.

On the return trip we saw the beautiful but untouristed nieghborhoods Chestnut Hill and Manyunk.

With the growth of the Philedelphia cruise terminal I hope to see more cruisetalkers in my adopted home town [I was born and raised in NYC]

This weekend I met Lasuvidaboy in NYC off for his QM2 crossing.

We had a great time in the still Bohemian East Village and spent hours discussing ships, cars, and architecture.

Just met Mike aka 'mec1' who is presently in Vienna.
It is indeed very nice to meet a prominent member of this forum in person and talk - and not type - about ships. I can only encourage you to do so should you have the opportunity.

P.S.: We met in a coffeehouse only to find out that the waiter worked for seven years on Royal Viking ships....the world is smaller than one thinks.

So did you grill the poor waiter on which ships and experiences? Certainly a small world at times. In the last 2 months I have met Malcolm, Matts & Patsy, along with a couple from another group. Certainly worthwhile meeting

What I would like to know is how Malcom came upon that photograph of the girl on the yacht????

I almost met Patsy and Pam

I have met Green in Glasgow in 2000, and we had a wonderful time, and still friends to this day.

I met BMajor on Aurora's maiden world cruise and it was a pleasure meeting him, a very nice gentleman indeed, he was only on for a few days so we ran out of time, I think we got on like a house on fire....

It really would be nice if we could have a Cruisetalkers Cruise, this has all been discussed before I know, but the sheer logistics of it would probably make it the "impossible dream".... for most of us.

Cheers
Mary

Why? All we have to do is to agree on a certain cruise - everybody can then book the cruise on his own. (No doubt it would be adequate to have so special events aboard like a reception or a tour of the engine room etc. - but this should not be too difficult to organize)

Hey Malcolm

I forgot to add that I almost met you in Greenock when you were on the Norway..... bet it was a lovely sail up the Clyde - go on admit it, especially on SS Norway.

I am not sure Mrs.M would be too chuffed with you making that remark LOL....

Cheers

Hi Ernst

Well you have the problem of people who dont fly, so its not so easy for instance if a cruise from Port of Miami is chosen how does the non-flier get there, bearing in mind the extra cost of trying to sail there plus the cruise.

Cheers
Mary

As said, it will be impossible to find a cruise which suits everyone - but maybe some. To meet the different demands several cruises (not too many) could be declared as CT cruises. Finally posting on which cruise one goes next is already approximating a CT cruise - should it be the wish to have another members of this forum aboard one should consider to post before booking and have some more play to adopt to others - this is problaby also a good way to agree on certain cruises.

Giving the fact that all members are spread around the globe something like a crossing sounds like a good compromise - and it seems as if the winter crossing of QE2 is already becoming a CT cruise.

Beside that shorter cruises form easy to be reached ports seem to be more suited for such an undertaking than a 4 weeks long Pacifc region world cruise segment of an expensive not 'english speaking' ship.

Concerning me I would like to participate in such a CT cruise (I am sure this would be fun) but I will probably not have the time to do this next year.

Just came back form a meeting with Nathan.
It might sound odd and has been repeated many times in this thread but it really is nice to meet a forum member in person. We will certainly repeat this in the near future - especially as we now both live in the same region.
