I was wondering. Does Disney Cruise Line have any plans of ever expanding?

I beleive they have expressed interest If the exchange rate is favorable. They could use an expension both ships will soon be 10 years old in a few years (though they are in great shape).

Disney were talking about building a third ship, but as nycruise said, the exchange rates were not favorable at the time. It is on-hold, but I can see it happening, especially if a Disney ship in Europe (2007) proves popular.

I had a client interested in the Europe cruise and wanted a brochure so Disney tells me they did not make any since most of the sailings are sold out. While I like the cruise line and product I can't see cruising with them in Europe! But I guess I am wrong.

I cannot but think the exchange rates are an excuses.
American lines have been ordering and paying dozens of new cruise ships since 1998, and the exchange rate is the same for them. And the ships they have built always became larger and larger (so i think more expensive).

As for succes for Disney in Europe : i think the Disney ship can be considered a "familiar" american base in "strange lands", which must appeal to some people.

RCI, NCL and Carnival all have now large european cruise programs (Carnival itself is only one ship) - I wonder if they have more American passengers on them,or a majority of European passengers ? I guess they are marketed both in USA and EU.

I've no idea how good the 'Disney' cruise line is, but they are a globally 'respected' brand. I think they will probably pick up many first-timers in Europe.

I recall reading (somewhere) that 50% of Disney passengers do NOT bring (have?) kids!

It seems that Disney Cruise Lines is pretty sucsessful in the Carribbean so its easy to think that they would do pretty good in Europe. To me they seem like one of the best lines out there but I couldn't say for sure being that I have never been on any ship.

No sadly I havn't been on any ship except two ferrys between Vancover Island and the Mainland.
Sorry you had such a bad time. Would you ever try them again?

Nothing personal, but you seem to be judging an entire cruise line (albeit 2 ships) and condeming them on your personal bad experience, not unlike several others who have recently condemned the entire company and fleets of Celebrity, Princess, Royal Caribbean, and Cunard based on their bad experiences. Your bad experience does not mean that those are indicative of that entire fleet, or every cruise for every person who has sailed Disney.

As a TA the company I worked for sold thousands of Disney Cruise Line vacations, and never once had a customer come back with a single complaint. As for my personal sales, at over $1,000,000 gross per year, the largest number of complaints I had were from NCL.

One of the worst cruises I ever had was on Princess, but I didnt condemn them because of that one bad cruise. I went back, several times as a matter of fact, and am glad I did; twice to the Caribbean and twice to Alaska.

I was docked next to DISNEY WONDER in Nassau last week. She looked magnificent. The upkeep was immaculate and the detail I could see in the design was truly impressive. This was the first time I was so close to a Disney ship and I was impressed. The ship I was sailing on looked like a rust bucket next to her.

I was also impressed with the beautiful crew pool area on the forward deck. I don't think I've ever seen a ship that had such a nice outdoor deck for the crew. This in itself tells me something about how Disney treats it's crew.

While I have little interest in sailing on DCL, I was quite impressed with what I saw. These are VERY attractive ships, at least from the outside.

I agree the Disney ships look beautiful from the outside and on the inside too I think. The Disney Magic is art deco and IMO art deco can make almost anything beautiful. Also it seems Disney always pays more attention to detail then other companies.

I've heard some comments that they do not pay attention to 'details' like good food and service!

However, we have some good reviews in our 'Readers Review' section (menu left). Although few recent Disney reviews, good or bad.

I have sailed Disney twice. Once with my family and once with adult friends (25-30 yrs old) and I had more fun just as adults. Compared to other lines I saw less kids! People think I am nuts when I say this but it was true on my sailing. I have been on over 20 cruises and by far the Disney Cruise is up there with my Celebrity Cruises. But we all have different taste and expectations. One of my worst cruises (still wasnt that bad) was a Costa Cruise in Europe (the itinerary was spectacular) but I felt Costa has lots of work to do in regards to food and service but thats my opinion. Would I sail them again: sure!

Getting back to Disney I am a travel agent as well and I always get very good feedback with DCL.

I agree Disney keeps the ship in great shape. The seperation of the kid, family and adult areas above and below deck is nicely done. The kids areas are great, but the public areas, adult bar area, dining rooms and tight . We actually had to crawl under our table to get out from it at dinner one night. The staterooms are bigger, but they are designed for 3 and 4 people rather then two. We had over 2700 on a ship that Princess or RCL wouldn't carry over 2200 on. The adult areas also shut down at midnight and their was nothing left to do but go to bed. Service was good, not great I remember that our waiter and ast waiter fought the entire trip more then having outstanding service. The food came out warm to cool at dinner and it was just fair. No 24 hour buffet's either, many times no food was available between 3 and 5 in the afternoon except ice cream.

The kids programs were great, the private island was nice too, but just as nice as the other lines. Overall, Disney was over priced. I could have done a b2b on Princess or RCL with a balcany.

I do think Disney should expand, however California is the place they should be concentrating on..as their are many millions of Passengers on the West Coast who would take a Disney Cruise! I'm sure their season they had their was very well received and they could even operate year round on alternating one week 7 day cruises and one week 3 & 4 day cruises out of L.A.!

Thats a good idea. They should do that. Also Disney is based in LA.
