FORT LAUDERDALE, January 25, 2007 –The UK-based All Leisure Group, which owns the mv Discovery and Voyages of Discovery (operating as Discovery World Cruises in North America), has announced that it will be leasing the Explorer II - formerly the Minerva operated by Swan Hellenic and Saga Pearl – on a long-term basis. The company already offers destination-driven cruises aboard the 650-berth mv Discovery.

Roger Allard, chairman of All Leisure Group, said: “We have identified a gap in the market place for the type of quality, destination-intensive itineraries and small ship experience that the Explorer II can offer and this was an opportunity not to be missed. “

He further added “There is a shortage of small, niche, quality cruise ships in the market place and we are very fortunate to have been able to lease Explorer II. She was commissioned in 1996 and is 12,500 tons, with an ice-strengthened hull. She has 394 lower berths with 12 cabins with private balconies.”

“She is an ideal ship for Antarctica where she has built up an enviable reputation with partners such Abercrombie & Kent, which will continue to be responsible for the expedition program and operations.”

In the summer, she will operate under the Voyages of Discovery/Discovery World Cruises brand to destinations that include Southern Africa, the Red and Black Seas, Libya, the Mediterranean, the Norwegian Fjords, the Arctic, Canada, the US Eastern Seaboard and South America.

Mark Flager, vice president, sales, marketing and passenger services for Discovery World Cruises, added, “We’re extremely pleased to offer the Explorer II in the summer months alongside the Discovery and increase the destination and product options available to our existing loyal customers. There is great support in the US and Canada for our destination-intensive cruise programs and this will help us attract new passengers to the small-ship experience.”

The Explorer II will undergo a soft refurbishment program before going into service with Voyages of Discovery/Discovery World Cruises.

Discovery World Cruises was awarded the 2006 “Best Value” in the Specialty Cruises category from the World Ocean & Cruise Liner Society.

Its good to know small ships like the EXPLORER II still has a bright future.

Its surprising that EXPLORER II has gone through a few companies for the summer months (Phoenix Reisen, Saga).
