Indeed. I think the POPE was the better looking of the two. She will go next. Not surprised how quickly the PATRICK has been taken apart.
The General John Pope was a P2-S2-R2 class ship of approx. 17,800 GRT powered by geared turbines developing 18,700 SHP. Twin screw with a speed of 20 kn and accomodation for 5,200 troops. It was 622 feet long with a beam of 75.5 feet.
Two other ships of this class are noteworthy.
The General George M. Randall was the ship that transported Pvt Elvis Presley to Germany in 1958. He returned to the US to be discharged air in March 1960 by air. The Randall was broken up in 1975.
The General W.P. Richardson had a long post-war career as a pasenger ship staring in 1949 as the La Guardia (American Export Lines). It later became the Leilani (Hawaiian SS Co.), President Roosevelt (American Presidents Line), Atlantis (Chandris) and Emerald Seas (Eastern Steamship Lines), It was once said of this ship that it had changed names more often than some people change their socks.
The General Edwin D. Patrick was one of the slightly smaller P2-SE2-R1 class and originally carried the name Admiral C.F. Hughes. These ships were 13 feet shorter and were approx. 17,100 GRT. They were Turbo-electric (18,000 SHP), twin-screwed with a speed of 19 kn. They carried 4,680 troops. All of the ships of this class were originally named after Admirals but were renamed after Generals in 1947.

I remember seeing the Emerald Seas not only in Miami and Nassau but on one occasion in dry dock in Newport News, Virginia (it was in late 1977 or early 1978 I believe). I happened to get aboard her on a Sunday morning and it was rather ghostly how abandoned and empty she felt. I got a couple of pictures of her on the keel blocks in the emptied dry dock and will always remember how impressive and strong she looked sitting there.

Troop Transports... From Wikipedia:
USS General John Pope (AP-110) was a troop transport that served with the United States Navy in World War II. After the war she was transferred to the Army and redesignated USAT General John Pope. She later served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars as a civilian-manned Military Sea Transportation Service vessel, as USNS General John Pope (T-AP-110).
General John Pope was launched under a Maritime Commission contract 21 March 1943 by the Federal Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company of Kearny, New Jersey; acquired by the Navy 2 July 1943; placed in ferry commission the same day for transfer to Baltimore for conversion to a transport by Maryland Drydock Company, and commissioned in full 5 August 1943, Captain George D. Lyon in command.
