Well if they are not keeping the C. Columbus, maybe they can drop the "2" from the Columbus 2's name.

On another forum its been reported that Plantour, the German operator, which has been operating VISTAMAR for some time, is taking on the charter of c.COLUMBUS. VISTAMAR has moved (or is in the process of moving) to French charterer Plein Cap.

Yes, seeing as she is really something like Columbus 5 if we include Columbus C.

And Europa 2 is really Europa 4 when you come to that.

One interesting thing is that with all these changes, some time next May the entire crew from the COLUMBUS will move over to the COLUMBUS 2 and in turn be replaced by the entire crew from the VISTAMAR. I wonder if they will do all this in Venice or somewhere else?

Talking about 2's ..... does anyone know which ship is to become Mona Lisa II. Gross tonnage of 46,087 (Sky Wonder matches the tonnage exactly)
but only 800 pax, she is scheduled for calls at Geiranger in summer 2012 according to Geiranger Cruise Schedule

Apologies if this has been discussed before - I may have missed it

Ken

Ken,

please see here for a recent discussion about "Mona Lisa II". In short, while there had been several reports that "Atlantic Star" had been confirmed as "Mona Lisa II", Lord Nelson Seereisen has officially denied that.

I'm not sure if the last word is spoken here, however.

Best,

Raoul

But what ship will take on the soon to be ex-C.Columbus' Great Lakes schedule? Vistamar is much smaller and not as posh.

Actually, the operator of Vistamar will take over Columbus to replace Vistamar and I think Columbus is a perfect fit for that. Hapag Lloyd simply won't offer these itineraries anymore.

Hapag-Lloyd reveals more details on Europa 2

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises revealed more details of the newbuild to its fleet this week at ITB in Berlin with a computer-generated view of Europa 2(pictured).

Construction of Europe 2 is due to commence on September 1, 2011 at STX shipyard in St. Nazaire. February 7, 2012 will mark the keel laying of the ship which is scheduled to leave dry dock five months later when final fitting out starts in July. The naming ceremony is planned for spring 2013.

Regarding deployment, Europa 2 is set to sail seven day, combinable routes in in the Western Mediterranean during spring and summer from Barcelona to Monte Carlo, Monte Carlo to Malta and Malta to Venice. In autumn, itineraries will also include Eastern Mediterranean destinations. The ship will spend the winter in the Arabian Gulf and in South-East Asia.

Onboard food and entertainment will cater for the interests of 'a life-style oriented target group' says the German operator. A spacious wellness centre is planned. Besides incorporating family suites, three children’s spaces are included. Nannies will offer day care and a dedicated programme for children from age two upwards – a new feature for Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.

Onboard entertainment will be provided by the company's own production team.

Seven restaurants, with no extra charge, will focus on Asian, Italian, Brasserie Grill, Wine Bistro, Lido, Sushi Bar, Special Dining and Fine Dining concepts.
