The high-end ferry can take 1,500 vacationers to the Bimini resort in just over two hours, which, according to the folks at Resorts World, makes it the fastest cruise ship in the Americas.
But on Saturday night, the ship had enough room to accommodate all 960 passengers stranded from the crash of the Bahamas Celebration and take them to Miami.
The Celebration cruisers had expected to arrive at the Port of Palm Beach at 7 a.m. Saturday. But other arrangements had to be made after the ship struck something in the water about 9 p.m. on Friday, forcing the ship to turn back to Grand Bahama Island and its passengers to don life vests.
Instead of that early morning arrival, the passengers stayed in resorts in the Bahamas, courtesy of Celebration Cruise Line, before catching the SuperFast to Miami and then a transport to Palm Beach, also paid for by Celebration.
"After arriving an hour early to the port at Resorts World Bimini and disembarking its passengers, Bimini SuperFast immediately sailed to Freeport to board the stranded 960 passengers and crew and then returned to Bimini," said Resorts World spokeswoman Heather Krasnow.
"All guests, including the Bimini SuperFast's day-cruise passengers, were safely taken back to Port Miami on Saturday evening."
While the Celebration remains docked in the Bahamas, would-be cruisers slated to travel Saturday and Monday will be refunded or "other arrangements will be made," according to a press release from Celebration Cruise Line.
