Marco Polo ran aground in Buksnesfjord near Gravdal on the Lofoten Islands in Norway.

This is not the first time this classic cruise ship has run aground in Norwegian waters.

Wonder how good are the navigation charts in these areas.

As an ex atlantic liner it appears that she was built with a strong hull so lets hope she has not suffered any major damage and manages to keep to her cruises planned for her 50th year in service .

Latest news from the ' Marco Polo ' is that they will try to pull her off at 19.00 hrs tonight with the assistance of the Norwegian coast guard vessel ' KV Harstad ' which is traveling to the grounded area to assist.

The ship has been inspected and some hull damage has been found.

The updated news information came in a short time ago to my ' Neils Cruisingchat ' site on Face book from a friend of one of my friends who is on the ship.

Norwegian coastguard divers was down to check Marco Polo and NO damage was found on the hull.
