Just a couple of stray bits of information to throw in here....
I have no idea about the red and green markings in the Schatt Harding pictures, but the black marks are a regualtion SOLAS backside which is carefully defined to ensure that any lifeboat has enough SOALS size spaces for it's certified capacity. Presumably there are 370 of them !
Secondly most modern cruise ships tenders such as the CTL 38 pictured on the Diamond Princess & QM2 do, as stated, double up as lifeboats. While these boats are normally approved to carry 90 or 100 pax as a tender they will be certified for 150 as lifeboats. In the event of an emergency the boat preparation teams will rip out the "comfort" fittings such as cushions, and in many cases the floor boards as well in order to create the additional space required. Have a look next time you are on board under the cushion of your seat and you will see the little black mark. There may well be one between your feet as well, meaning that the floor can be removed and if you are sat there in an emergency, it's going to get very cozy with someone elses head in your lap.
