'Static Ships' are always an intensely discussed topic in this forum - be it ideas on what to do with SS United States or recently the future of Saga Ruby. Usually, the focus of these discussions is of course on the very few large 'static' passenger ships that are still around like Queen Mary or Rotterdam. However, there are of course many other rather interesting 'static ships' - e.g. only recently I learned about the Benson Ford.

An interesting example of a ship becoming an exhibit is the Ticonderoga at Shelburn Museum.

What better position for the Benson Ford, she looks great there.. but maybe a bit dark inside? Never heard of Ticonderoga, she's been a museum ship for near on 60 years too. Nice photo here of her 'journey' across land.

Ships sitting on grass

These are all in North America, any like this in Europe? Lydia in sand I know, but on grass? [Sub in Finland too]

Well a static ship, if not on grass but still in the water, is of course ss ROTTERDAM/REMBRANDT. She would be too big to trundle across land to a grassy bank somewhere

We stayed aboard for one night prior to the Norwegian Getaway trip. I only wish it had been longer as I did not manage to get to see everything, all a bit of a rush. I did not get to the dining rooms, Tropic Bar or have time for an engine room/indoor pool tour, but think I saw most of the rest. We ate in the Club Room, ex casino, pricey but excellent, even if it did take a loong while between courses. Breakfast was in the Lido, great room with a wide variety of breakfast foods.

I notice the furniture in and the layout of the Lido Restaurant has been completely changed sometime in the last year.

Aad's photo from this thread in 2010; from online photos it was still this way in Sept 2012:-

Hi pam, I recall the food and service was not so great, so hopefully that has changed to.

I had an excellent experience visiting the ship, even though it is 'static'.

The food was very good, no complaints there, but there was rather a loooong gap between courses at dinner.

The lido has now a more retro look, though the Panton Chairs date also from the fifties, it was fresher before - as the room has changed anyway a more radical change seems better...

It was still like this in June 2013, so it's quite a recent change.

I rather like the new look. Rather less plasticky.
