According to passenger's blog,
April 13, the engine failure on The Oceanic, it also became a power outage.
It was recovered on April 15.
Air conditioning has not been in perfect condition even though on April 16.

Since I had the opportunity to question the staff of GL, were asked about fault conditions.
GL staff replied, the situation is unknown. Because, it was already to change the owner of The Oceanic, is outside the charge.

According to passenger's twitter,engine trouble occur again on26 April and stop in the electoric power and the ship stop at sea.
It is very hot in ship.
He twit when arrive at Keelun ?

According to another blog,

April-13 about 19:00, Generator stopped and outage occurs and the ship had stopped and drifted. The first two hours had been in storage battery, emergency light, but comes with, it is also off to total darkness after 21:00. Late sitting for dinner, the restaurant is not because not ready to eat, seems to have eaten in a satellite café .
24:30 midnight. Finally, electricity is lit. But, the engine is not running yet.
1:00 am on April 14, in drifting.
Air conditioning is not working because, of course the room is hot and humid.

April 14
Was able to repair the generator 100V, 220V can not be used in generators are useless.
Since electricity can not be used, for lunch, one piece of bread and cans of soft drink.
Therefore, for equipment (air conditioning) is not working, it is very hot in pool deck. Not open ceilings. Currently, we have continued to drift left to wave.
No hot water shower,just mere shower of water.The ship is like a "sauna bath" exactly.
Dinner, "ice cream" and "canned fruit" and "cooking the vermicelli".
21:00, has been provided is wrapped in thin bread and vegetables.
Night would normally, but do not go out in the anti-piracy measures, everyone had come out. Supervisor also did not say severely.
Since the previous day, the naval vessel of anti-piracy measures have anchored close to Oceanic. And has made a request that the escort.

April15.
Breakfast is served in milk with flakes. Cabbage was cut , yogurt, canned fruit.
Because it can not use electricity 220V, plus the heat does not seem to be cooking.

April 16
Breakfast was the usual return to the menu such as boiled egg, fermented soybeans, milk, vegetable porridge, miso soup, shredded cabbage. There is no rice.
Lunch was porridge, soup, shredded cabbage, stir-fry, fruit cans. "Afternoon coffee" is not.
16:00, electricity 220V was restored, ship telephone, international phone, air-conditioning was recovered. To all passenger, a glass of wine was served at dinner.

April 17
Breakfast, lunch, dinner, all became normal.
To all passenger, beer made in Morocco was served.

April 18
Cochin,one day later than scheduled arrival

April 26
10:15 ,All electricity is turned off. Not hear any engine noise.
10.30, emergency light was lit.
12:20, lights and power is restored 100V. After some recovery also check the 220V.
Lunch was normal.
Dinner is cabbage and defrost food and a piece of bread and sponge cake.
Unlike last time, is that the lights.

April 27
Breakfast was shredded cabbage and watermelon, milk with flake.
Lunch was shredded cabbage and fried chcken and rice and 1/4 lemon.
Dinner was Stir-fry of vegetables and rice and Japanese desert.
22:00,one rice ball was served.
Of course shower is mere water.

April 28
01:15. The Oceanic was moving slowly. Still does not run air conditioning.
Sauna bath state wherever they are.
Breakfast menu was usual. Restoration of the air conditioner was in the morning.
Cruise speed of 10 knots and guess.

April 29.
Cruise speed was 16.6 knot.

Keelung is the date the arrival of May 1 two days late.

Thank you Maru, very interesting. The poor old lady seems to be making heavy weather of her last trip/ At least the passengers all got a glass of wine and Moroccan beer
The engineers appear to have done an excellent job in repairing her engines. She once again enters the records books, as having recorded the fastest speed ever seen on AIS.

Poor Balmoral can't compete with her 128 [or was it 118] kts of the south coast of Ireland the other week.

Hi Maru

Very sorry to read about the problems with ss ' The Oceanic ' on her final voyage as the Japanese Peace Boat.

It looks as it she could now finish up on the beach at Alang as happened to ' The Topaz ' after her last peace boat voyage.

I can not guess the schedule of The Oceanic, can not go to see at Yokohama.

The blogger has stated that the service of alcoholic beverages, would be conciliatory strategy of Japan Grace.

The AIS ship position maps this morning are showing that ss ' The Oceanic' arrived at Keelung at 23.50 hrs on the 30th April 2012 and sailed at 05.52 hrs on the 1st May 2012.

Her speed this morning is shown as 15.8 knots and her arrival at Yokohama is now given as 13.00 hrs on the 4th May 2012.

That graceful lady still showing she's got moxie...I recall hearing that she was beating Hurricane Andrew before it ever reached the Bahamas. She was with Premier then.

She arrived in Yokohama just after midday today local time and is tied up opposite her replacement, OCEAN DREAM. A rare site to see two 'Peace Boats' together. THE OCEANIC is due to relocate to another berth this evening, but doesn't appear to have a confirmed departure date from Japan as yet.

She still looks stunning...

She just cast off all lines and pulled away from her berth shortly after 10pm local time in Yokohama

If she is going to the same yard as the Sagafjord it is at least a humane end versus the torture at Alang and we will be spared the sight.

Sleep tight my old friend you served us well and provided many happy hours at sea.

Sorry, Allan, but I don't get the torture versus humane sentiment. Just because no photography is allowed in China, how do you really know that the ship will be more "humanely" disposed of. Being torn apart at a shipyard versus a beach to me is pretty much the same. RIP to OCEANIC and good to have her go on such a high note of service, if, indeed, it is her time.

I'm very sad to see this wonderful beauty go. I'm glad I got to sail on her when she was with Premier Cruise Lines, sure they Premiered her into their fashion, but she was still a jewel to me...any cruise ship that out ran Hurricane Andrew like she did in 1992 is worthy in my book.
I'll miss THE OCEANIC.

Maybe you know more but my understanding was the Chinese did not run the ship up on to a beech and did a more old fashion dismantling versus Alang.

The pictures that surfaced of the Saga Rose showed her funnel removed, the top decks being taken down and and machinery being craned off. Versus Alang which chinks the ships on the beach .... but I guess it is all the same in the end.

Unfortunately if she is going to China I assume there is no chance for you to save any of the original art or fittings. I always wanted the "tourist class" sign over the lounge doorway. I threatened more than once to climb up and get it. I have two of the dining room ceramic tiles here and I am looking at them as I write this note.

As I said, sleep well our old friend .... we have lots of found memories. I am SO glad I got to sail her with Home Lines when she was at her peak.... more to come when I finish my book of her .....

Hi Allan, alas, I think the Chinese actually have less respect for the fittings even if they do remove the structure more methodically. At least with India, things can be saved and (with the right connections and a lot of effort) one can bid a great ship farewell.

I look very much forward to your book on her, though.
