In november we join the OLS on a ship to say bye bye to QE2 when she leaves Southampton for the last time. Are there more peiple on CT who will be on this special ocassion?

On breakfast TV here today ( UK south ) they had a little item on the future of QE2, which stated - several decks to be stripped out, all cabins to be replaced, engines taken out, and funnel replaced with a glass copy. So in effect QE2 as we know it disappears next month. This is not a criticism as I understand the need to make these changes, but it kind of goes against Carol Marlows announcement at the time of the sale that QE2 would be in good hands and her history preserved for future generations.

The problem is that many of the cabins are small and outdated and would make very poor hotel accomodation. What to replace, what to keep, a difficult call.

Even the motel suites are small compared to suites at a hotel, 2 would make 1 suite ?

I would be surprised if any of the current cabins or suites survive.

Yes - if you read reviews of the Queen Mary at Long Beach, some guests Say things like: "The Rooms are too small" and "It would be better if it was not a ship"!
