The new Japanese Peace Boat ' Pacific Clipper ' is being dry-docked today at the Tampa Bay ship repair yard.
Coast Guard spokesman has said that it is thought the hull has deterioration problems as a result of sitting in a Turkish harbour for four years.
Ultrasonic images of her hull will be taken, while she is in dry-dock, to check the thickness of the plates.
Her 900 passengers have been accommodated in hotels in Tampa and Orlando for two days pending the hull survey.

And at what time did she "sit" there for four years?
Sounds like a bunch of rubbish to me.
Best,
Raoul
It may be that they do not want her cruising in Alaskan waters, where she is due to go, and causing any pollution.
Of course, the USCG also said that its inspection "revealed" a hole in the hull that it had already been told about by the owner.
I was surprised to read these details that were given to the press by the US Coast Guard spokesman Lt. Com Kevin Carroll and published on the TBO.com Tampa Bay Online news website !
I would think the Japanese Peace Movement are now wishing they had kept 'The Topaz' on charter although how she would have got on with a US Coast guards inspection is unknown.
After another inspection on Friday, 25th July, more safety problems were found with the Clipper Pacific.
She was expected to remain at Tampa for at least another day with her passengers still being accommodated in hotels.
It will be interesting to see if she continues on her planned voyage, after this delay.
She was due to arrive back in Yokohama on the 25th August after visiting Acapulco, Vancouver and Alaska.
She is scheduled to sail on her next trip from Yokohama on the 28th August.
The Japanese Peace Boat ' Clipper Pacific ' departed Tampa today after completion of the required repairs.
There appears to be no information on her revised schedule.
