My heart has been shattered into a million pieces after seeing what wonderful condition that ship is still in.

Curses all to modern cruise lines for so aggregiously discarding the ships which brought them their success today and for becoming the corporate behemoths they all now are!

Marlowe,
The demise of the SS Monterrey is just the beginning. Soon you'll see even more classic ships (from the 1970s and 1980s)on the beach, and Andrew Shaw reaping in the spoils.

While the SS Monterrey will soon be a memory, the SS Norway is not. Let's fight to prevent this ship from joining this dreadful fate.

Why do you believe that it is more feasible to safe the Norway than the Monterey?
It is sad enough to see these fine ships being scrapped - this charade does not make it better.

What was the real reason MSC sold her off before 2010? I recall she had some recent engine issues and being a single screw ship that of course could cause major scheduling problems. Looking at the pictures of her at Alang, it looks like MSC had the maintenance staff working overtime up until the end.

I am startled that the wheel had the "left and right" markings. Is it not obvious?

This was a safety requirement to eliminate any chance of confusion.

One thing that is unique to that is that the majority of the world's ships have port/starboard arrows at the helm but US ships have generally always been left/right. Nobody seems to know when and where this originated but it might be a leftover from WWII when most of our cargoships were being manned by inexperienced seamen?

It really doesn't matter much however as there are fewer and fewer US built and flagged ships and traditional helms as well are disappearing from modern vessels being replaced with joysticks.

Sadder and sadder I am afraid.
