Diesels on the otherhand are reciprocating and have many more times the number of moving parts. Pistons, wrist pins, rods, crossheads, crankshafts and many bearings plus valves, cams, timing gears, injection pumps, etc... If one of these components fails, it usually involves shutting the entire engine down with a concurrent loss in the ability of the ship to keep operating.
Diesels of course rule the sea today because they are more thermally efficient, need a much smaller engineroom and require a much smaller engineroon crew to run as well as are more flexible for power distribution in the case of diesel/electric ships.
The ship is shown on the MSC website as sailing from Barcelona on the 4th, 11th and 18th of September on seven day cruises.
No mention of any problems though !
