just got my copy of bord du france. Its nice book, but no what I expected. There are really no pictures of the France's maiden voyage or construction photos. There are no photos of the first class dinning room. Lots of repeat pictures, especially of the tourist class smoke room, 1st class library. On the positive, there are numerous pictures of 1st class suite and cabins, some of which I have never seen before, cabins with red walls and red fur beds. Interesting. Anyone ever read le fins de france. Is it any good

Of course this little book is not perfect and exhaustive and you have of course the right to be disappointed.
But looks like my copy and yours of this book is not exactly the same...
Pages 137, 138, 139, 140 and 141: ten pictures of the construction that I had never seen before (and I'm searching for books and new pictures of this ship for the last 30 years).

There are no photos of the first class dinning room.

Pages 49, 50 and 92, though you don't see that much in two of these ones. But at least, they're different from the ones of this room you can see everytime, everywhere.

Lots of repeat pictures, especially of the tourist class smoke room, 1st class library.

Tourist class smoke room: pages 4, 25, 26 and 107. Yes, perhaps a bit too much, but they're all quite different.

There are indeed four pictures of the 1st class salon de lecture/library, pages 34, 36, 81 and 99 and they're taken from three radically different points of view. But I agree, although in total accordance of the theme and title of the book ("life aboard"), the page 36 one is rather useless.

On the positive, there are numerous pictures of 1st class suite and cabins, some of which I have never seen before, cabins with red walls and red fur beds. Interesting. Anyone ever read le fins de france. Is it any good

Depends what you mean by "any good".
I've leafed through "La fin de France" several times and then I've never expressed the need to purchase it because, in term of new pictures (but that's not what it was written for), it is, according to me, not nearly half as good as "...à bord du France" wich, on the overhand has really some new and unseen quality photos that I had never seen before and I did not hesitate one second to purchase it when I fisrt discovered it two years ago.

Remenber, this boook isn't named "Le paquebot France" but "...à bord du France", emphazising the life aboard and not all the feature and corners and design of the ship as some other books already do.
Perhaps, as an advise if you allow me, you should try and read the French text too, in order to be able to catch and appreciate the spirit of this book and the atmosphere then aboard, wich is only a complement of other books and it does not pretend to be what it is not.

I got my copy at FNAC for the street price of Euros £27 but could have had it for much cheaper at a leading book chain Maxilivres.
Does "A bord du France" exist in English?
