MSC will order not two Fantasia class ships with Aker Yard Saint-Nazaire but two new class of ship about 115 000 tons.
The first will be delivered in 2011.
There is no firm order at the moment.

I like this. Christophe D said they won't be Fantasia-class, but smaller. Not to matter. MSC buying Silversea? Are Silversea selling?

On the Fantasia. MSC is losing it. What happened to the tasteful interiors of the Lirica and Opera?

will this be the formal dress?

Is that an actual public room onboard?? The choice of a 1980s Cadillac de Ville is odd.

The lower pic is of the famous Hollywood costume designer 'Nudie' who customized a GM convertible every year until the last full-sized model was built in 1976. The model shown is a '74 Pontiac Grandville.

I saw that today and nearly fell off my chair!

Well, to be honest image didn't surprise me so much as the caption - it was when I realized it was on an MSC ship that the shock came. The first thing that came to mind was PRIDE OF AMERICA, but alas, her Lazy J Texas Steakhouse (see here) is a paragon of good taste compared to this.

Worse, if Costa's Farcus-designed ships are any indication, it will be popular.

It certainly isn't what I've come to expect from MSC, certainly not from a ship it's touting as "the most beautiful ship in the world".

And I was just saying how nice I thought MSC POESIA looked. I guess she may go down in history as the last MSC ship that was decent inside!

Tragically, it is an actual public room.

As for the car, surely a pickup truck would be more appropriate given the Texas theme? Then again, maybe they're going for that '80s "Dallas" look.

MSC is going from Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastriani to Marisa Tomei and Joe Piscopo.
When the Fantasia stops in Bayonne it will fit right into the surroundings.

I thought the QV was bad.

Why not spare the grief and put in a Chili's franchise?

When designing the interior of a ship you cannot think about taste but about what the majority of passengers like, which might end up being that.

No one ever lost money underestimating the taste of the general public!

I think they were going for a more vintage look and an old Cadillac w/Texas longhorns bolted to the hood works-but they should have used a model from the 1950s or early 1960s.

True - it looks like someone didn't do their research.

Or they did, but were cheap - an '80s Deville is definitely a more economical solution, and how many passengers would know the difference?

Either way, the result looks pretty awful.

well it is a computer rendering, so it might be that the 80's Brougham was already rendered and could be used for this image. Now then again this could be what they are using, we will see when the actual ship is finished...

If they are American senior citizens who probabaly owned them they will recognize it and get sick at the sight. That vintage of Cadillac had the notoriously underpowered HT4100 engine that blew up at 40k miles. The subsystems failed regularly, and had an interior that makes the Norwegian Pearl aft dining room look tasteful. 80's Cadillacs were Mercedes and BMW's best friend

I agree Doug, an 80s Cadillac is cheaper than a 50's or 60's. Mid Century Cadillacs go from 10g-90g.

Just leave an 80"s Cadillac in the Philly badlands or da South Bronx with the keys in it and the windows down and it will be there weeks later. Hmmmm is that where MSC found it

This thread should be renamed 'Car Talk'

Speaking of late 80s Caddies, a mint condition burgundy 1989 Brougham d'Elegance (that's a mouthfull) w/vogue tires and factory wire wheels was parked at my gym the other day. Talk about a symbol of the glitzy 1980s!

A burgundy 1989 Brougham D'Elegance with wire wheels and vogue tires sounds like the automotive equivalent of CROWN ODYSSEY. Well, except you were probably a lot less likely to get seasick from the ship than the car!

The other thing that brings to mind is Jerry Stiller as Frank Costanza saying of his new ride, "It's a COOP DEE ELEGANCE!"
