Only a few years ago the only visiting American ships to UK ports were older/smaller vessels of the various fleets. I would have never have guessed that we would be getting a 'Voyager' class, let alone a 'Freedom' class.

It's about time NCL sent us a newer vessel than 'Dream', though.

Independence of the Seas is a ship designed to cruise the tropical caribbean. I think Genesis will be the one or a new post-panamax class.

Malcolm - If NCL were clever they would be sending 2 of their newest ships to Europe, however it seems that they are happy doing what they do ?

The dream is past it and they will never get top dollar for it, RCIs decision is in stark contrast to theirs - it shows in their results too.

NCL are clearly focused on Hawaii and US homeport cruising and NOT the UK market.

We may be a little island but we are the worlds second biggest cruise market. RCI and the Carnival brands (Cunard, P&O & Princess) obviously appreciate this.

The appeal of Norwegian Dream is that she can sail through the Kiel Canal... non of the other NCL vessels can and they would lose that big plus point. People often pick the ship because of this.

Yes, Norwegian Majesty can.. but she is older than Dream, albeit by not much.. Malcolm is wanting a new ship. Dream's funnel was specifically designed for the Kiel Canal so why not leave her sailing it; she seems to be quite popular with some, even her own fan club along the canal.

The fares on 'Dream' each summer are some of the cheapest offered by anyone for ex-UK the Baltic itinerary.

I've got nothing against 'Dream', I just would like to try an NCL newbuild which are built for Freestyle, from a UK port if the date, price and itinerary were right.

Dream is almost a prototype by comparison to the new NCL vessels.

to be honest sailings ex UK seem to be at an all time peak this year; just look at the port schedules. We have some of the newest to some of the oldest vessels... I would say that in the UK at present we have the widest range of types and styles of cruising than anywhere else in the world. We should be thankful.

If you want a purpose built Freestyle vessel then there were the opportunities on Jewel & Pearl.. and Gem coming up in Oct time. Take the transat - fantastic value.

Agreed. I am thankful, but I want an NCL newbuild and I'm restricted to the School summer holidays.

The moves make sense. They introduce and get the UK market hooked on the ships they feel will define the larger market. I wouldn't want Carnival effectively passing their ships off as the "standard" when the RCI designs are vastly more original and appealing. (from my point of view, which I offer only as such.)

That makes selling the UK and others on the same class of ships in another market so much easier I would think.

And it provides me with options to travel in the UK.

Everybody should be happy.
