We're thinking of booking a Fred Olsen cruise for next year. One of the attractions of the cruise in question (Iberia, 10 days) is the fact that it's an ArtsClub cruise on a 'Wine' theme. I can see that some of the destinations lend themselves to wine-based (vino-centric?!?) excursions, but I was wondering how much on-board activity there might be - talks, tastings, etc. The brochure taks very generally about ship-board activities, but doesn't give any details. So I was hoping that Olsen veterans, of whom I know there are quite a few here, might be able to give me some guidance.
Is that the Black Watch or Braemar? Both are charming little ships, but I would avoid cabins on Braemar's 'Marina' deck as some suffer from engine vibration. The Black Watch's 'Marina' deck does not suffer frm this problem.

"Sample and learn all about the world of wineThrough a series of lecturers and tastings on board, we will talk you through the history and world of wine. Whether your preference is for French or Chilean, Italian or Australian, prepare to be enthused and persuaded to be adventurous and to make the most of this golden age when there has never been more good wine, more easily available and at such affordable prices. By the time you conclude our sessions you'll have a good grasp of what makes wines taste the way they do, as well as some ideas as to which food and wine combinations work best"
So you will get tastings etc. I have not been on a themed cruise, but know people who have enjoyed them. FOCL often produce small leaflet type extra brochures for these. I can't find one quickly, but a mailing for a Dance themed cruise with "Spanish & Latin American flair" includes classes for beginners and improvers [Salsa, Mambo, Merengue, Pasa Doble] during sea days, dance competitions, a Spanish Show and Flamenco demonstration by enthusiastic passengers.
On another "Cruise with the Stars" it mentions the entertainment programme is tailored to accommodate a variety of special events with the stars, from guest lectures to question and answer sessions and so on. It is up to you whether you wish to take part in the extra 'themed' activities, they certainly don't 'take over' and the regular activities run alonside.

Hopefully it will be a refreshing one?
