This may sound wierd, but I think the best "upgrade" there is the duvet!

I really hate the 90's hotel stile sheet, thick wooly blanket then another sheet, and think its time for duvets to become mainstream.

Duvets may be fine for Europe or Alaska, but why would anyone want one in the Caribbean! Usually I have the temp control turned way down to get the room cooler and sure wouldn't use a duvet.

I laughed when I read the list of Amenities that Princess was putting on their ships. Everything that is listed there has been included in Suites & mini-suites on HAL ships for some time now and the only thing you don't get in a mini-suite is the Champagne.

What does a "pillow menu" mean? Anyone know?

A pillow menu is a listing of various pillows with different fills and sizes. Like down, foam, etc.

I usually ask for down pillows.
Can't stand the foam rubber ones. I did not have a problem with Princess or RCCl. But Celebrity will only offer the pillow request for concierge service or above. We will see if they will give their Elite passengers(10+ cruises) this amenity when we go next Feb. seeing we will only have a balcony stateroom.
Celebrity does the champagne upon boarding the ship.

This is great new. I try to get a mini-suite whenever possible, they just felt a little lacking in comparison to Celebrity.

As for a duvet in the Caribbean, they can be cooling as well, much better then those wool blankets. Now I have to see about getting booked for next year.

Hi,

I suspect ISLAND P is the first ( or among the very first ) to get the treatment. She's wet-docked in Vancouver from 10th to 19th Sept following her
last s/b from Alaska, and before repo-ing to L.A.
for her Hawaian sailings this winter. As she's way too young for a '' mid-life'' dry-dock and this particular idling was scheduled, I suspect the '' new amenities'' as announced ( plus upgrading of the computers systems ) will take place in Vancouver.
( plus a good outside repaint which I noticed is badly needed.......)
We're on the 20th Sept 3 days coastal.
I'll let all know if it happened and what it looks like.
Cheers
CG

A lot of this will be easy to implement.

A friend sailed on the Island Princess the first of May and he had champaigne glasses delivered to his minisuite when he first got to his cabin - he had no clue why. Another friend sailed in a suite in June and had many of the items listed above (vanity mirror, tote bag, umbrella, etc.. )

These ships are supposedf to have these new amenities in a few weeks - my guess is most have them already. I am sailing in a minisuite in October and can't wait.

I've never had a problem getting the pillow of my choice on HAL.

I sleep best with a very small, almost flat pillow and ask our Steward for one when we board. Only once was there any 'debate'. The Steward look puzzled - I asked him 'is something wrong?" "No Madame" he replied "but to make up the bed properly I require a bigger pillow." "Fine" I said. "use your pillow to make up the bed but also leave the tiny one for my use." He did just that and I had chocolate on both pillows!............now that's HAL service!

P.S. We've never aspired to a Suite!
