Have you noticed how gas prices have jumped up again now as Summer approaches. The oil leak in the Gulf has nothing to do with it as it was an exploritory well. We hear of special Summer blends of gas to cut polution levels during Summer driving.
??? What makes it so special to raise the price? A lot of BS !!!
Oil has come down to $77/barrel -but gas prices are rising toward $4.00-probably by July 4th.
Oil companies are making BILLIONS of dollars each quarter. Sticking it to us again and again!!

Very simple principle - capitalism; supply and demand.

When gas topped $4/gallon, people stopped buying SUVs and curbed driving and the economy began to tank.

The economy is now improving, people are driving more and buying trucks and SUVs again.

As long as the American driving public puts up with gas prices in the $3-$4/gallon range, the gas companies will charge whatever the market will bear.

I don't like it anymore than anyone else, but I made the choice of liking to drive a 400 hp, 6000 pound SUV and thus, literally pay the piper twice a week at the pump.

Until we, as a society, show the oil companies that we won't take it anymore, they will do what they please.

Tim

Talk about sticking it to us!!!!

Now you know why us Brits drive smaller cars with smaller engines. America will to if gas reached UK prices - trust me.

My car has a just over a 1 litre engine and I find that expensive to fill!

It's hard for me to get really worked up about gas prices when people are willing to pay $5 for a latte at Starbucks.

Gas is still cheaper!

I don't drink coffee-never have, don't smoke, and don't drink. Don't drive a SUV. I do have three cars.2 with V6s and a hotrod with a V8. Fortunately being retired I don't have to fill up to often. But prices vary so much here, especially near big cities eg.Chicago.

I have an Escalade V8 and I only have to fill it up twice a week. Gas here in San Francisco is pretty decent. Not too high, but not low enough. It takes about $95 dollars to fill it up.

Wow! And I thought paying 30$ to fill mine up was a lot! I'm lucky enough to live in a very small town and drive maybe 100 miles a week, so a tank of gas last me about 2-3 weeks.

Well the good thing about living in a city like S.F is that there is always a bus, or a trolley that is going where you need to go. We have B.A.R.T and Muni too. So if I dont want to drive I dont have too. One tank of gas can last me three weeks if I ride the local transportation most of the time. So its not as bad as it seems.

Interestingly, today's paper has an article stating that gas prices may have peaked already and could be going lower now:

Pump Prices Going...Down?

I guess the skeptic in all of us will wait to believe that when it happens!

Oil now at $74.00/barrel. We could see gas at $2/gal. if oil continues to fall in price. .

It's said that one of the 21st century rites of passage in the UK is now "the first time you pay more than £100 to fill your car up with petrol".

Fortunately, my car's tank isn't that big. The most I've paid for one fill is only about £60.

During my tour in the USN I lived in the Bay Area for 4 years, mostly in Oakland and Concord, the latter being a terminus for one line of the BART system. I've had the chance to return on vacation several times and love taking the wide variety of public transportation the area offers. The last time I was there it was 6 years ago just before they instituted the new high speed Baby Bullet Trains between San Jose and SF.

My next move will be to a city that has a large system such as this so I wont have to have a car at all.

Oil now down to $72/barrel. But gas still up there.
Have you ever noticed when oil prices drop it takes forever to see a drop at the pump. But when something happens eg.oil spill.etc. prices jump immediately. Then we get the song and dance routine from the oil companies as to why this happens.
Does this happen in Europe too??
