Built at the STX Finland Turku shipyard, Viking Grace is the first large passenger ship to be powered by 'Liquid Natural Gas' (LNG).

Excellent, I enjoyed watching those, thanks
I do love the cabin hallway carpet, as I said in the other thread; I would be making sure I kept to the planks LOL.

I am surprised at the amount of paint scrapped off her hull forward (in the clip taken from BIRGER JARL as you pass by). I assume from the ice, but are all the other ferries the same in this respect?

Pam

The extent of the damage is maybe a bit unusual. Of course, in these waters during that time of the year one sees many ships with paint being scrapped off near the waterline.

Thanks for passing off the links Ernst!

I've been following the several articles on the Viking Grace on Maritime Matters and she's a very interesting ship. I too love the carpets!

Back to the carpets I could just about see the dragonflies along the 'boardwalk' and have since seen comment that perhaps there are different bugs on different decks. Is that the case Ernst? or did you only do one deck?

There are different critters on the carpet (I mean depcited on the carpet! ) but I did not check whether their occurrence is correlated to the different decks. I do have more material on Viking Grace - actually much more - but unfortunately I am very limited in what I may publish. I hope the videos still convey at least a bit how it is to travel aboard Viking Grace.

I know. Still cold enough for waiting two hours outside just to film a ship. BTW - thanks for the tip to film her from Fåfängan.

Having watched all your other clips, non of the vessels have anywhere near as much paint scrapped away as VIKING GRACE. BIRKA has some loss of paint down the sides too and she has just been refurbished I believe.

As said above, it's indeed unusual - e.g. compare it to Amorella - close up views of her bow can be seen in the following video clips:

Amorella arrives at Mariehamn - video clip

Amorella leaves Mariehamn - video clip

Your excellent clips only confirm how beautiful this ship is; thanks for sharing.

I still say major cruise lines could learn a thing or two from Viking Grace and her design.
