Fincantieri has received an order from Regent Seven Seas Cruises for the construction of a super luxury cruise ship. The new ship will be called “Seven Seas Explorer” and will be assigned to Sestri Ponente (Genoa) shipyard.
The contract is worth approximately USD 450 million. With its 54,000 gross tonnes and 223 metres in length, “Seven Seas Explorer” will be the flagship of the fleet, with accommodation for 738 passengers in 369 spacious suites.
The newest ship to join the South Florida-based cruise fleet will be a luxury vessel for Regent Seven Seas Cruises. The line announced Wednesday that it has contracted with the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy to build an all-suite, all-balcony ship that will be delivered in summer 2016.
The 54,000-ton Seven Seas Explorer will accommodate 738 guests and will be the line’s largest ship. Regent’s fleet isn’t young — its three ships are from 10 to 14 years old.
“Seven Seas Explorer will be the most luxurious cruise ship ever built, boasting one of the highest space ratios and staff-to-guest ratios ever seen in the modern era of cruising enabling us to deliver the highly personalized service and extraordinary experience that is the hallmark of the Regent brand,” said Frank J. Del Rio, chairman and CEO of Prestige Cruise Holdings, Regent Seven Seas’ parent company.
The ship will have 369 suites ranging from 300 square feet to 1,500 square feet, six open-seating gourmet restaurants, Regent’s signature nine-deck atrium, the two-story Explorer Theater, three boutiques and an expansive Canyon Ranch SpaClub. The specifications for the ship call for a hull 732 feet long, with a beam of 102 feet and a draft of 23 feet. The ship will be powered by diesel-electric engines.
The contract price for the vessel is approximately $450 million, making Seven Seas Explorer the most expensive luxury liner ever built, the company said.
The addition will give Regent Seven Seas about 2,650 berths, the most of any luxury line.
“We strongly believe that now is the right time to expand our fleet as our loyal guests have asked for a greater array of itineraries and our travel partners have proven that there is pent-up demand for a new Regent ship,” said Kunal S. Kamlani, president of Regent Seven Seas Cruises.
The company did not announce the new ship’s itineraries.
