I believe I read somewhere that there will be a few things differnt between venues on Oasis and Allure of the seas. Can anyone explain/comment?
If these two ships will have identical venues I would not consider sailing on them back to back.
I found that sailing on Solstice and the Equinox back to back (less than a year) that they were the same . I did not enjoy the Equinox as much . Although Celebrity must have taken notice to the passenger comments as some of the problems(Solstice) were not seen on Equinox. Comments??

Nope, ALLURE will not be an exact replica of OASIS but pretty close. Some of the changes are outlined in the press release below.

In addition to the changes outlined in the press release, there may be a surprise or two as well.

A couple things not mentioned in the first press release is the new partnership with Dreamworks Animation, and the search for a new up and coming chef to lead 150 Central Park, the upscale, fine dining experience onboard.

Funny you mention back to back cruises. OASIS and ALLURE are two ships I could easily do a back-to-back on. There is so much to do onboard, so much entertainment, and so many dining options it's almost impossible to do it all in a week. I left wanted more after my 7-days on OASIS and can't wait to get on ALLURE.

Allure of the Seas Set to Entice Vacationers With Distinct Features and Experiences

3-D Movie Screens, Trendy Retail Stores and New Dining Offerings Aboard Royal Caribbean's Newest Ship

MIAMI, May 13, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --When she debuts this December 2010, Royal Caribbean International's Allure of the Seas will bring a refreshing new array of features and amenities to the high seas as the world's next largest and most innovative cruise ship. Following the announcement of Chicago: The Musical as the ship's signature Broadway production, Royal Caribbean is sharing the next of several new onboard amenities that will surprise and delight Allure of the Seas' guests.

"Allure of the Seas will offer guests a new set of onboard amenities and entertainment and dining options that will help make a most memorable vacation," said Lisa Bauer, senior vice president, Hotel Operations, Royal Caribbean International. "Though Allure of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas are sister ships, each ship's distinctive onboard experience will offer guests a wide selection of choices that appeals to every age and lifestyle. Throughout, guests will also enjoy the Royal treatment, delivered by every member of our world-renowned friendly and engaging staff and crew."

Among the features being introduced aboard Allure of the Seas will include a 3-D Movie Screen. The phenomenon of 3-D movies adds a new dimension to Entertainment Place, thanks to specially equipped 3-D screens in the ship's Amber Theater. Following suit, Royal Caribbean's popular Freedom of the Seas and Liberty of the Seas, as well as sister-ship Oasis of the Seas, also will be equipped with 3-D technology as soon as January 2011.

Combining the best of classic Mexican beach bars and Southern California's famed taquerias, Rita's Cantina will be avibrant new restaurant in the Boardwalk neighborhood. Adults and kids alike will enjoy some of their favorite Mexican fare, such as shrimp ceviche tostadas, warm tortilla chips with salsa and fiesta guacamole, as well as entrées, such as fajitas, fish tacos and Chipotle-style flautas. The more casual setting will be a favorite lunch, snack or dinner spot for guests seeking a flavorful fiesta aboard Allure of the Seas. Rita's Cantina also will boast some of the best and widest selection of margaritas at sea, offering both authentic and signature concoctions mixed with a choice from the extensive list of quality tequilas, served on the rocks or frozen in a variety of fruit-flavor combinations. In addition, Rita Cantina will introduce new nightlife to Boardwalk with live guitar music, drinks and dancing. Rita's Cantina's design will include large open breeze ways and an outdoor seating area complete with high top tables and stools, and will be located in place of Seafood Shackaboard Oasis of the Seas.

Also new to Boardwalk's dynamic and engaging scene will be The Boardwalk Dog House, an outdoor hot-dog specialty counter located where the donut shop is on Oasis of the Seas. Guests can choose from traditional hot dogs, wieners, brats, sausages and other delicious linked meats and a variety of toppings to split a long bun. The Donut Shop will remain on Boardwalk in a new location next to the Ice Cream Shoppe.

One of the world's most recognizable fashion apparel companies, GUESS, also will debut its first flagship store at sea this December in Allure of the Seas' Royal Promenade neighborhood. Guests will enjoy the latest stylish handbags, wallets, watches, shoes, jewelry, eyewear and perfumes in one of the largest GUESS accessory stores. The GUESS Accessory boutique will be located in place of Focus Photo Shop on deck six.

Guests also will enjoy new complimentary onboard conveniences, such as guest services kiosks in the Royal Promenade where guests can instantly view, print or e-mail their SeaPass folio or their personal calendar, or check-in and print airline boarding passes. Each stateroom aboard Allure of the Seas also will be equipped with an Apple Ipod dock for guests to set their own personal ambience.

Allure of the Seas will share the title of the world's largest and most revolutionary cruise ship with sister-ship Oasis of the Seas. An architectural marvel at sea, she will span 16 decks, encompass 225,282 gross registered tons, carry 5,400 guests at double occupancy, and feature 2,700 staterooms. Allure of the Seas will tout Royal Caribbean's exclusive neighborhood concept of seven distinct themed areas, which will include Central Park, Boardwalk, the Royal Promenade, the Pool and Sports Zone, Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center, Entertainment Place and Youth Zone. The ship will alternate a Western Caribbean with an Eastern Caribbean seven-night itinerary from her home port of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. ROYAL CARIBBEAN TEAMS WITH THE CULINARY INSTITUTE OF AMERICA TO FIND CHEF FOR SIGNATURE RESTAURANT ONBOARD ALLURE OF THE SEAS

"Allure of the Seas Culinary Challenge" Invites Grads of Prestigious Culinary College to Vie for Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity at Sea

MIAMI, June 7, 2010 - Things are heating up at Royal Caribbean International. After wowing the world with the debut of Oasis of the Seas last fall, the cruise line is preparing to do it once again this December with the launch of their newest ship, Allure of the Seas. The sister-ship to Oasis, Allure will share the title of world's largest and most innovative cruise ship and will boast many of the same ground breaking features and amenities, including the highly acclaimed signature restaurant 150 Central Park. Continuing the tradition that was set onboard Oasis, Royal Caribbean will once again select an up-and-coming culinary superstar to lead the kitchen of 150 Central Park on Allure, and this time has the distinct privilege of partnering with The Culinary Institute of America (CIA), the world's premier culinary college, to find the perfect candidate.
Today through June 20, 2010, graduates of The Culinary Institute of America with either a bachelor's or associate degree, can show off their culinary prowess and creativity by entering the "Allure of the Seas Culinary Challenge" for a shot at the job of a lifetime - a one-year paid contract to be the Chef de Cuisine of 150 Central Park onboard Royal Caribbean's newest ship, Allure of the Seas. Entrants are required to create an original, signature recipe that could potentially be featured on the menu of 150 Central Park as well as submit a video entry to www.allureoftheseas.com/culinarychallenge demonstrating the preparation of the dish and explaining why they should be chosen as Chef de Cuisine.
At the conclusion of the entry period, judges will select 10 semi-finalists, whose videos will be posted to the contest website and open to consumers to vote for their favorite chef between June 28 and July 11. Consumers who register to vote will have the opportunity to win a trip for two onboard an Allure of the Seas preview sailing this November, including a dinner prepared by the winning chef. The five chefs with the highest number of votes, along with one "judges choice" entrant, will become finalists and will be invited to participate in a final culinary challenge held at The Culinary Institute of America's Hyde Park campus in New York on August 5 and 6. During the final challenge the finalists will be required to conduct an interview with, as well prepare a three-course meal for, an esteemed panel of judges from Royal Caribbean and The Culinary Institute of America, who will ultimately select the Chef de Cuisine for 150 Central Park on Allure of the Seas. The culinary challenge will be documented in a series of webisodes on www.AllureOfTheSeas.com.
"We are extraordinarily honored to have support from, and access to the incomparable talent and resources of, The Culinary Institute of America," says Frank Weber, vice president, Food and Beverage Operations, Royal Caribbean International. "Similar to Oasis, rather than partner with a celebrity chef whose schedule would not allow for full time involvement onboard the ship, our objective was to give the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to an extremely talented rising star who would become the face and personality of our signature restaurant. There is no doubt we will find this among the CIA's alumni."
"The CIA is excited to work with Royal Caribbean and offer this unique opportunity to the CIA's 40,000 alumni. This pool of talent will provide Royal Caribbean with a chef who will delight the culinary senses of the ship's guests," says Ron DeSantis, Director of CIA Consulting.
Located in the lush and tropical grounds of the ship's Central Park neighborhood, 150 Central Park will feature décor that will embrace the mellow earth tones, unique textiles and fixtures inspired by nature's four seasons. Inspired by the simple elegance concept of trend-setting restaurants in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles, each detail of 150 Central Park will be dedicated to enhancing the dining ambiance, from the tabletops to the service team uniforms. The restaurant menu and certain design aspects will be developed and determined by the winning chef of the Allure of the Seas Culinary Challenge.

Does anyone know why Allure is 5 cm longer than Oasis? All I can find on the Internet is a reference to a "design anomaly" which was apparently discovered "accidentally".

I believe it was a manufacturing anomaly resulting from weld joins. I have heard various differences from 5mm to 5cm. 5cm sounds a lot but maybe it isn't too bad given the length of the ship.

5 cm is not a meaningful difference for such a long ship. The length of either ship will differ by more than 5 cm just because of the thermal expansion and contraction of the steel.

No doubt, but there's obviously a difference in the like-for-like measurement. And what is more, it's obviously a difference which has attracted a significant amount of interest and work.

I'm not sure that 5 cm is necessarily insignificant, anyway. For example, I wonder how much extra steel it would account for if it was right in the middle of the ship, as opposed to (say) a drawing mishap at the prow. And I imagine that if a single block was found to be 5 cm too short when the ship was being assembled, it would cause a bit of a fuss!

But it's not going to be 5cm in any one particular place. Without knowing a thing about the art of welding I would guess that over all the length of these vessels and perhaps the differing temps in which the welding of the steel plates had taken place, that could account for it? A minimal figure at each weld.

With the expansion and contraction maybe even at any particular time of measurement and the environment the 2 ships may be in, any one of them could be longer than the other?

Who is an experienced welder?

Pam

I can see all that.

But I still find it curious that this is not the way in which the difference has been described. The language used is of there being a late discovery of a design anomaly - suggestive of something like someone writing a number down wrong in Allure's plans.
