I think this is great, while I am not a fan of the Disney brand their ships are great and this just takes it to a new level

It's a great horn isn't it? I recorded it on July 31 in Cherbourg when Disney Magic left.

I can't wait to hear what the new Disney Dream will have as a horn. I hope they do something new or at least in addition to the classic horn.

When HAL used to stop in Nassau, I always loved to hear the Disney ship play "When You Wish Upon a Star" as they left the port. But then I couldn't get the darn song out of my head and I'd go around humming it.

Playing a few notes of a tune on the ship's horn is all well and dandy, but the old DELTA QUEEN's calliope could beat it every time.

Exactly.
Of course, Delta Queen also had (has) a proper steam whistle and not one of these phoney horns.

Delta Queen blowing her whislte leaving Cincinnati

Here some clips on her calliope:

The Calliope
of Delta Queen - short version

The Calliope
of Delta Queen - long version

The Calliope
of Delta Queen at Night

The Calliope of Delta Queen from Ashore

...and if that's not enough.....

Calliope of Natchez

Thank you, Ernst, for picking up on my recent post and following it with your steam calliope and whistle videos. I was hoping that you would do that for the readers.

By the way with my new laptop, I can enjoy, and have, your ships videos!

So Disney could purchase a steam calliope from a river boat which perhaps is about to end her days, for their new vessel. A real well-used calliope with some history on the rivers of the US would beat any other ship's horn in a 'battle' The steam could be released up the funnel similar to Ernst's clips and any tune could be played rather than merely the same one all the time.
