The Ryndam left San Diego on Tuesday evening for her 9 day Sea of Cortez cruise, however, this morning she is tied back up at the Broadway pier in San Diego. There has been alot of news about norovirus on that ship...anyone know what's up?

Sorry but your information is a wee bit wrong - she did not sail Tuesday evening but hopefully will be sailing this afternoon (Thursday 15) and yes it was due to the Noro Virus.

She returned to San Diego on Tuesday morning but did not take on new passengers, as the ship was put in quarantine for 2 days due to an oubreak of Noro Virus. A large crew was brought on board and together with the crew on board thoroughly disinfected and cleaned the ship.

There is a letter from HAL posted on another website informing those passengers who were to board her about the problem. I know 2 people who are booked on the cruise. They along with 600 passengers were bussed to a hotel in Anaheim (all hotels in SD were fully booked) on Monday & Tuesday and are being bussed to the ship to-day. They are probably getting ready to leave the hotel shortly. HAL gave paxs the opportunitly to cancel, which I am sure a lot did.

As soon as I hear from my friends that they have set sail, I will let you know.

I was on the Feb 21 - Mar 3 Ryndam sailing and was one of nearly 200 pax and 30 crew who contracted the GI virus half-way into the cruise. They took very good care of us. There were stories that some pax violated their quarantine which, if true, certainly contributed to the continuing outbreak. The lessons: wash your hands and, if you get ill, obey instructions! Let's hope they have now solved the problem. Despite the illness it was a fine voyage, with a lovely bonus day in San Diego

And lest anyone bring out the old argument that this is a "cruise ship" virus, remember that it is happening with increased frequency on land. Currently here in South Florida there is an epidemic going through the schools and nursing homes, of the same intestinal illness.
