Well after seeing the spectacle that was QM2 is San Fran and with all the Buzz here in Sydney due to the impending arrival of the 2 Queens I have decided it is about time i actually experienced QM2 for myself!

I am thinking about going all out and doing the Grill's so have a few question's! Hopefully anyone out there who has experienced them can give me some feedback, it would be most appreciated!

I am comparing between a P1 and Q5 and am having a hard time getting any decent pictures and floor plans of these cabins (besides the standard shot in the brochure which only show the one view towards the balcony doors). From the shots in the brochure the 2 types seem very similar, with the only difference seeming to be that the Q5 is slightly wider.. But can anyone tell me if there are any extra features to the Q5, or can point me towards any pictures showing other angles including bathrooms etc?

Secondly I know with the Grills that you can have meals served in-suite from the restaurant chef's, but neither the P1 or Q5 seem to have anything you could use as a dining table? Has anyone had a full meal served in-suite and do they set up a table for you?

I know a big sell point of the Queens grill is the Butler service, but what exactly do people use the Butler for? Is the Butler also your room attendant, or totally seperate? Also has anyone actually requested the Butler Pack or Unpack their bags? I assume one thing they do is serve the evening canapes, now with these do they come at a set time or can you specify?

Is it true you get an X-Box in the Queens grill?

I have heard that even if you are only in Princess Grill, you can still have access to the Queens Grill lounge, is this true? I also read somewhere that there is a Queens Grill ONLY Deck area.... I have not seen this marked on the deck plan, does anyone know if this is true and if so where it is located? and again can you access it if you are in Princess or only Queens Grill?

Finally regarding the Dining, I know the actual restaurants are almost identical, accept for Gold/Silver decor, but is the Food served in each the same or different? Do you get any extra's in the QG dining room as opposed to the PG (such as table side cooking or accomodating special requests etc). Also with the table arrangements in both Grills, I know you can choose the time to dine, but do you sit at the same table everynight with others, or just whatever table is free when you arrive (with others or alone?).

I know it's alot of questions, but if you can help me out on some or all, or just give your experience of either PG or QG (especially if you have sailed in a P1 or Q5) i would be so appreciative!

Cheers!
Counting down to the Royal Rendevous on fabulous Sydney Harbour. 20 Feb 2007

SydneyBoy, the Cunard web site HERE has all the information that you need about QM2 accommodation etc.

The Q grade cabins do have an X-Box. However if you have time to watch TV or play X-Box on board, I would suggest Cunards excellent entertainment and enrichment programme would have failed.

Thank You greybeard, that website was very helpful, the virtual tours are much more extensive on that website than Cunards Own!!

I asked about the Xbox not because i am interested in playing games, but because apparently only Q1-4 suites get DVD/CD players, and i do like to take CD's to play music, now as the Q5 won't have a player, i wanted to confirm if it was true you could get an Xbox, because i believe i will be able to play my DVD'Cd's through it anyway.. (To me it would make more sense to fit all the Grill cabins with DVD/CD players rather than an Xbox, because as you say I can't imagine many Grill guests actually being interested in playing games!)

Malcolm, thanks for that link, however it seems to only provide a rehash of the little pictures and descriptions from the brochure! I would have thought on the web they could provide pictures (of at least the suites) from different angles AND a floorplan, which would really help me because i would like to see the layout/size of the walk in robe and bathroom, and if the Q5 has a seperate shower/bath as i know the P1 is combined.....

Also the website says "Guests dine at a reserved table in the single seating Queens Grill restaurant" - however is this reserved for your party exclusively, or do you sit with others?

Cheers for your assistance everyone

There is a distinct difference between Q and P, the Queens Lounge is only for Q grade pax. Queens grill (lots of tables for 2) entertains any request you may have (Princess Grill does not), Butler service once tried is great inc packing etc. 1st time round you wonder what to do with them (they are additional to the steward) but once used to it.........

Always book the best cabin you can afford, throw the x box out of the window it will get in the way of enjoying the trip. Don't know why but to me Q class always seemed better on the QE2 than it did on QM2.

P1 grade passengers can also use the Queens Grill Lounge. On our crossing we were in the Queens Grill and on a Caribbean cruise we were in a P1 grade and the food is the same in either Grill-excellent.

Ok, So as Princess Grill guest, you still have access to the Grill Lounge and Private Deck...

So you are getting more flexibility in the Dining Choices, a slightly bigger suite and Butler....

Thanks mike sa for your info on the Butler... so you have actually had the Butler unpack your things before? What else exactly have you used them for?

Also if you wanted to entertain guests in your suite, can they arrange invites/canapes/drinks etc and does the Butler actually provide service whilst you entertain... and do they charge for this?

Because your Mini bar is included in the Queens Grill right? Is this set up once or replenished throughout your sailing?

Only 2 days before we get to see the 2 Queens together here in Sydney!

Thanks again for the info.
Cheers

Both Grills are open seating. You can go for breakfast, lunch and dinner anytime during the designated dining hours. You have an assigned table and that is your table for the entire voyage. Dining in either Grill is a 5-star event w/excellent food and service. The wine list is first rate and well priced. We dined in the Todd English one night and could not wait to get back to the Grill.

We usually had cocktails and canapes set up in the room at 7:00 and went to dinner around 8:00-8:30. Canapes/cheese plate was included-just make a call and they come when you ask them, set up your coffee table w/linens, flowers and glasses from the cabinet. I think the bar was set up once (Queens Grill). My partner and friends are the drinkers and there was always plenty to drink so it must have been restocked for us. Our bar bill was around $1000.00 on our last crossing and I assume that was restocking the in room bar.

We had the butler unpack and pack our bags and that was about it. They were always ready to help but we did'nt need them for anything else. Our friend's suite had a slight smoke smell and they commented about the odor to the butler. During dinner that evening he had the entire room cleaned, walls washed down, bedspreads replaced and carpets/drapes steam cleaned-that was amazing service! There was a printed note on their beds apologising for the odor any dampness in the room.

You will love the QM2.
