Hi all,

I will be cruising aboard the OCEAN PRINCESS (ex-Bashkiriya) in the near future. Have any Cruise Talkers' cruised with this ship before?

Can you offer any comments?

Thanks.

Regards,
Mike--in TaiShan with really bad weather

What a great cruise adventure Mike! I can't help much since I never been on this ship, but she looks quite similar to THE EMERALD (ex. SANTA ROSA?)

Hi Mr. Waynaro,

Yes, it should be a relaxing 4d/3n getaway in the Trang Sea. The itinerary is not set yet, so I don't know which islands the ship will call at.

And truthfully I don't care! Usually the ship(s) calls at islands where you don't trip over tourists at every turn . Thanks for your reply Wayne.

Regards,
Mike--still in TaiShan with real lousy weather!

Hi gaz hants,

That is a very good question.

Let me see if I can find an answer for you.
Or perhaps some of our very knowledgeable CT'ers will supply us with an answer.

Regards,
Mike

Ships are identified by their call signs (or even IMO number) which are unique from ship to ship, although their names will also be used in in-and-out of port operation, so it should be fine for more than one "Ocean Princess" to exist (Am I right?). In fact, there are many other "Ocean Princess" which are passenger ships, tankers... For instance, we have a "Golden Princess" in Hong Kong. "xx Princess" or "Princess xx" is rather command as names of ships.

However, I don't know whether there will be a problem as it is a kind of goodwill?

Hi Andy,

You are quite right.

As a matter of fact, according to Equasis, there are a total of 7 ships with the name "Ocean Princess."

3 are pax ships

1 is a oil products tanker

1 is a bulk carrier

1 is a bulk oil carrier

1 is a platform

Regards,

Hi all,

The SIRITARA OCEAN QUEEN, ex-BASHKIRIYA, ODESSA SONG, ROYAL DREAM, SILVER STAR, NANDINI, OLVIARA, OCEAN PRINCESS, OCEAN QUEEN has at some point this year capsized at Bangkok, Thailand. If anyone has more specific information as to when exactly and why she capsized, I would be more than grateful! Some shots of her capsized can be seen at the following links:

She capsized due to the flood waters and fast currents pulling away the moorings. The photos on 2bangkok were taken on 10 October.. so I would guess either that day or the day before.

Thanks Pam,

I found your topic on the matter today, when I got the search function to work, which didn't work yesterday. What a shame that the remaining Mikhail Kalinin class vessel list is now one ship shorter!

Brgds,
Aleksi
