I was on the July 24 Pride of Aloha Hawaii cruise. I enjoyed this cruise ship overall, and Hawaii was wonderful. I submitted the review once before, and Joe was kind enough to look for it, but the spam filter had eaten it. He suggested I submit it again and again the spam filter got it, but he was able to rescue it. I composed it in Word, and maybe that's why. I think the translation to the review changed a few letters, but it is readable.

I also noticed that there is a Pride of America review from the cruise the day before mine. I saw this ship docked and she looks bigger than the Pride of Aloha and looks very new. In person the short bow did not make as big an impression on me as on photgraphs. I guess the rest of the ship got my attention.

An excellent, well-written, and comprehensive review. Without being negative, it reinforces my lack of enthusiasm for freestyle dining. I go, I sit, I chat, I eat, I chat, I eat, I depart.

You did not see "I wait" in that activity profile, did you?

Thank you for commenting, Cambodge. I, too, would like to eliminate "I wait" from all dining experiences on ships. Luckily, we all still have a choice about choosing a ship with scheduled dining, or with freestyle dining. I wonder if someday, all ships will go to freestyle dining, since it does seem the trend right now.

Thanks for the review Kathy. Well done. I'm sailing on PRIDE OF AMERICA in a week, and the staff is still getting very poor reviews. They all seem to be very friendly, but that doesn't mean they are good at their job (or take pride in it). Dirty cabins and long dining room waits (for food once seated) seem to be the biggest complaints. I had a very dirty cabin on the short 2-night cruise I took on POAM last month. I've read where NCL has taken the step of hiring an additional 20-30 workers in Honolulu that do nothing but come onboard during the turn-around day and clean. It's sad the same amount of American workers can't do the job that foreign based crews do. Other than that I absolutely loved the ship. The crew was extremely friendly and fun to talk with. I liked the ship enough I booked a full cruise on her departing October 1st. I was hoping any problems would be worked out by now, but apparently they still exist. None the less I plan to have an excellent time! One thing is for certain, I won't tolerate a dirty cabin for 7-days!

Thanks again for the review.

Ernie

Hey Ernie, how about a live report or two from onboard POA.

Have a great cruise.

Kansask,

I like the bit in your review:

The carpeting has a fish theme and the fish swim toward the bow. I think this was helpful to people when turning into the hallways to go to their rooms..

What a brilliant idea!

I hope you have a great cruise, Ernie! I hope the Pride of America is staffed adequately - this makes a big difference. Since our cruise was the same week as the first regular Hawaiian cruise of the POAM, I wondered if our ship would be understaffed. I don't think it was, but I think there were some fairly new crew members on our ship, like our room steward, because more experienced ones moved to the POAM. I have to say, though, that the crew on the Pride of Aloha seemed to us to have their act together. Maybe we just got lucky! Dirty rooms and long dining waits are not acceptable on any cruise.

I liked the fish carpet idea a lot, too, Malcolm. This ship had interesting carpeting - Hawaiian leias on one and pineapples on another. The fish in the hallways were the only ones who swam in one direction, though!
