hello!

It was published that Royal Olympia Cruises went into bankruptcy .
Sombody knows what are the reasons for that ?
and what with rest of the fleet (exept the 3 vessel kept by ROC)?
the Olympia Voyager/Explorer are beautifull ship , the other ships in the fleet are older and smaller .
I think its the high cruise prices that led to that bunkraptcy .

They had Problems to pay their new Ships, when they are buildt in Germany.

The new Ships have an extreme expensive Engine Department, so the Cost of the Ship was high and the Idea to offer an fast Roundtrip in the Aegean did not work so good. On the other Hand, the Ships are in Quality not so good than Products of Celebrity and other Premium Lines, but in Price more expensive.

I think, it was no good Idea, to buildt an very fast Runner, but to offer only an 4 Star Ship for high Prises. Cabins are a little small, Comfort Level relativly low, Food maximum Average and Pricing above a lot of other Offers...

ROC has always some Problems, i think, in former Times the Sun Lines and the Epirotiki (ROC was an Merger of these Lines) work better alone.

Yes I agree with you .
In the price of an avrage ROC cruise , you can get a much better cruise on board much new vessels.
Accept than this , this is the destiny (and the end) for all small cruise lines as the big cruise lines take over them and attract their passangers .
Epirotiki Lines is remain in our memory for good , in the time that cruises weren't such sofisticated as it today .
one interesting thing , is what they will do in the Olimpia class vessels , and to wich cruise line they suitable .

I think, they will have an general Problem, which cannot be done better:

They are heavy Drinkers...

...they have about 50.000 Horsepowers, for an Ship of this Size (25000 Tons), this is absolutely oversized, and they have Diesel Engines, no Gas Turbines.

Fuel is expensive today, and they need an lot of it, and Diesel Engines make always Noise and Vibrations.

The Time has changed, before World War I, until Boeing 707 was coming, Speed was an Main Argument to sell an Passage from Europe to America, but nowadays, People who are hurry will use an Aircraft, Ship is for Comfort, great Food, Fun and so on...

...but never for fast travelling.

So, i think, this Concept is absolutely wrong, and i doubt, if any Cruiseline will be able, to sail these Ships with an great economic Effort.

The Construction and Layout of the Ships is not good, the Constructor of the Ships, Blohm & Voss is able to deliver superb Submarines, our own Marine now get one with Propulsion by Water-Cell, this needs as Energy H2 and is running without any Noise, Daimler-Benz has some Buses and Cars running with this Energy as Necar, (New Energy Car), with this Energy you need no Diesel Oil, Gas or Regular Benzine. The Energy needed is Water, and we have plenty of it. Separate it into H2 and O,
then bring H2 again together with O and this gives an Explosion, and the rest-Product of the Explosion is not Smoke like Explosions with Gasoline, it is clear Water.

We have an excellent Shipyard in our Country to deliver Cruiseships of the highest Quality, Layout and Comfort, this is Meyer Shipyards in Papenburg, but Blohm and Voss better should stay to produce Military Ships.

An other Point is this:

As an experienced Cruisegoer since 1981 with now about 45 Cruises, i knew, that ROC and former Epirotiki always are asking for high Brochure Prices, but often give big Discounts to get some Passengers.

This is not the best Politic.

Cruisegoers who knew this will always wait for big Discount and never book early. If they get no big Discount, they do not book at ROC, they go to an other Offer, which is generally better and cheaper or look, what other Companys offer "last Minute".

With an extended Discount Politic, you can ruin your Image and your Customer Relations.

Better is, to name no Prices in Brochures and give all Cabins on Daily Prices, depending to the Number of Bookings your have for an concrete Cruise.

If it is filled good, Prices go higher, if there are only a small number of Bookings and the Sailing Date is coming, Prices go down.

Hello elad,

The OLYMPIA VOYAGER has been sold to Horizon Navigation and is managed through V-Ships Monaco. Operator of the vessel is Iberojet which employs her on the Spanish market. Her name was shortened to VOYAGER.

The OLYMPIA EXPLORER was sold to Stalla Maritime and is used as a floating University campus. Her name was shortened to EXPLORER and she replaced the aged UNIVERSE EXPLORER.

Royal Olympic's IASON is sailing under charter to the French company Rivages along the Croatian coast. These cruises seem to go rather well as the cruising area is very popular right now. Her main competitors are the DALMACIJA and Elegant Cruises' MONET.

TRITON and WORLD RENAISSANCE are sailing the Cycladic Islands out of Piraeus.

OLYMPIA I and ODYSSEUS remain laid up.

They recently signed a cooperation with Golden Sun Cruises to operate also the AEGEAN I togehter with the rest of the fleet. I wonder how this will work out, especially as Louis Lines will show up in Greece with some vessels next year.

Patrick

H ow shame that a new , innovate vessel (O . Explorer)
is use as a floating university
somthing that is typical to old , tired vessels .
I sugest that they will pass a kind of refit , icluding engine convered to gas turbines or other , more fuel economic engines and maybe after this , they (the ships)
will be more efficent , sucssesfull vessels .

I think it would do better if they converted OLYMPIA VOYAGER and OLYMPIA EXPLORER into cargo vessels (lol) a Container ship would be nice to...
