Pam, I refreshed every few minutes, not sure why you didn't get the same one. Seeing this image I wish I could be there.

I`m back at the norwegian west coast to watch the QM2...We went to Geiranger today in our 24-foot boat. A beautiful day, even if it was raining sometimes.
A few pictures:

Look at the bow wave that QM2 is generating, she must be in a hurry! Marco Polo looks as nice as ever, great to see the old ships with a sheer.
Seeing the ships doing their nautical dance in Geiranger always give me a smile.

In such restricted waters, moving 150KT of water around briskly can damage piers, flood shore areas and properties and is generally not considered neighborly.
The first photo posted shows the magnitude of such a wake..remember it is taken from some distance away.
I would be glad to send copies of the St. Michaels "No Wake" and "Restricted Area: 5 knots max speed" signs to Gerainger so that they can get duplicates made up....in polished birch, of course.

In most situations I would agree with you, but I did a little research and found a picture taken from the other side of the fjord by a chap named Enra. I think this explains the reason for the speed....

lol
The first picture and the last three pictures are from My hometown Stranda, where My parents still live.
This place is about 1,5 hrs from Geiranger, and the ships usually makes more speed in that area. The fjord is wider, and there are not much piers etc.
However, the ships use to slow the speed a few minutes right outside this town (due to our harbor).
The first and the last of My QM2 pictures is when she turns up speed after passing Stranda.

I am very lucky I have time to go to QM2 in Rotterdam, coming Wednesday. Unfortunately I'm unable to see her arrive, but I will make it to be at her depart. I'm going with a classmate who has never seen a cruise ship before (sure he will be impressed!).
Hopefully I will meet some CT'ers, but Onno & Ben you are going to trace her around that time with the party boat so possibly we won't see eachother. But, who knows! I will wave when I see you 'cruising' by
I'm sure loads of photos will be posted here the same day, I will do so too.
You should see it when the Radisson Diamond is Amsterdam, it seems to be a thrill if you go underneath the ship with a little motor boot and eventhough port security is yelling to these people to go away they go underneath the ship anyway, which are frustrating the security who in turn will be even more alert when someone with good intensions comes along to see the ship.
It reminded me of the guy who jumped from a bridge on the Veendam (or other HAL ship), nice for those persons that they get a kick out of it, but terrible for on security and trust in general.
I’m sure that this QM2 bulbous bow incident will be reported to each port she will visit from now on and security will be ordered to be more strict with people being in close distance of the ship.

ssssssssssssst Joe thats me water skying alongside QM2 nice time doing so. It was a great experians after years skying behind speedboats. Now attached to the bow i was impressed by the ship and speed at that time. Sad whene they cut the line.
How did they get there? No boat visible, can't tell if they look wet, why would they swim fully clothed? Isn't it hard to climb onto the bulb? slippery?
How come no-one saw them? Numerous tenders and other vessels sailing back and forth. Someone would have seen them, on deck or otherwise.
Why is this the only photo? If this did happen, I would have thought many photos would have appeared of the incident by now? I am skeptical at present.

In the norwegian newspaper it says that the security personell on the QM2 confirm what happened:
"Sikkerhetsansvarlig om bord på gigantskipet ville ikke snakke direkte med VG i går. Men via Havnevesenet ga sikkerhetssjefen en kort uttalelse:
- Vi er klar over at de var der, og ba dem forlate bulben for deres egen sikkerhets skyld. Utover det har vi ingen kommentar, sier han."
In english:
"The secutity responsible on board the QM2 did not want to speak to the newspaper VG about this, but he makes a short announcement thru the Port Authorities:
-We know they where there, and asked them to leave the bulb for they own safety. We have no further comments about this"
VG also tell us that the boys where about 10-13 years old, and the crew at bridge of the "Marco Polo" radioed the QM2 to tell about the children playing on the bulb.

Next week during the Tall Ships race in Antwerp, there will be a Crystal ship at the cruisterminal and the very pleasant Zuiderterras, the promenade alongside the hull of the ships above the ships, will be closed of to the general public "because of safety reasons...". A great pity and loss I think.
