I am wondering which ship sailing today do you think looks the best. (Exterior)
Could you also say why.

I like the Queen Elizabeth 2 to look at best because she has the classic lines of a thorough bread, she is huge yet well proportioned and she has a very attractive hull, bow, stern and superstructure. Her lifeboats are placed in a good position which makes her look clutter free. Her one mighty funnel and her mast compliment her brilliantly.

Caronia and Norway are my next two favorites.

I have to say that I think the best looking ship in cruise service is the Seawing. She is petite, sleek, and her blue funnels are really quite fab. I also love the Legend of the Seas, and P&O's new Aurora is definately one of the prettiest and most well proportioned newbreeds.

I would have to go with the Disney twins, with their long foredecks and whimsically elegant gold scrollwork along the hulls. The twin funnels are a lovely touch.

Swan Hellenic's MINERVA, IMHO, may well be the most balanced of all the contemporary liners, thought she'd probably fit on the Lido Deck of the VOYAGER OF THE SEAS. The VOTS is not a bad-looking vessel herself, she is certainly better looking than the GRAND PRINCESS, which looks like a shopping cart. Some friends want me to go with them on one of her Med trips next year, but with grad school, I don't know if I can make it...anyway, I can look at my shopping cart and pretend...

Beauty of course, is in the eye of the beholder, but I still think one of the best looking contemporary ships is the Marco Polo. She is well balanced, with a nice funnel in the right place, a good bow and the after end is good too.
Sagafjord is good, but is spoilt by those stupid extra cabins Cunard stuck up on the top...they did the same to the Vistafjord as well...peter
BTW...we, Marco Polo, last month departed Phuket, Thailand at exactly the same time as the Saga Rose. We from the berth, and she from anchorage. Both bound for Colombo and she came in 2 hours behind. But, she trailed a cloud of smoke the whole way, taking us back to the old days of steam jobs. We could even see it on the horizon after the hull had dropped below it. Either she needs a good overhaul or Saga is buying el cheapo fuel..

S/S NORWAY, Q.E. 2 and if we could
get it out of the mothball problem
it's in and I think all will agree
on this one S/S UNITED STATES.
The day it comes back out again,
we'll all be drinking some delicious
Asti Spumante Champagne!!!!!

Well, there you have it. Another example of how the best-looking ships today are still the ones with the classic lines. Even the Disney ships inherit much from the age of the liners.

Cunard........
I've been thinking about this for some days
now and cannot narrow it down to one. Here
are the ones I like best, although some I
liked as built, not as they are today: QE2,
Norway [as built], Rembrandt, Caronia [as
built], and the two Crystal ships are not
bad for contemporary ships.

I agree with you, NAL, but something is amiss in the Crystal twins' design. The hull is very beautiful, but the superstructure doesn't taper off with the bow, it sort of looks like it is "tumbling" over the hull, I notice this, esp. from the bow. The SEABOURN SUN also has this problem. But all three ships have lovely hulls.

The classic liners are still the best looking ships. Comparing the NORWAY, QE2,etc to todays's new ships is like comparing a 57 Chevy to today's sports veichles,(Explorers,Blazers).

you cant beat edenborough castle {EUGENIO COSTA}. any thing out of italy was pretty good looking. marco polo even oriana it is pretty good looking inthe flesh.

I don't like the older ships, the same way I don't like an old dark outdated kitchen.

The new ships are sleek with more sparkling glass and circular lounges overlooking everything. More balconies! Even the artwork has not been forgotten.

As modern ships go, I think the SuperStar Leo is a good-looking ship, as are the Sun Princess sisters.

I have so many ship in mind as to beautiful but one that comes to mind is Cunard's Caronia of 1949 - 1974, her huge funnel and bright green hull made her a pleasant view to see.

Of the modern ships, the question should be which ones are NOT butt ugly.

Disney Magic/Wonder are the only ones with any grace at all.

All the others have the inspriation of a Maytag

Classic liners; most are beautiful except for the Oriana of 1960, and the WW1 German giants. Canberra and Rembrandterdam are the most beautiful.

Gizmo comparing a classic to a modern is to me, a Jaguar saloon to a garbage truck.

Talking about the Disney sisters, I used to agree they were very beautiful and somewhat more classy then the competition. However, last night I saw a photo of the Wonder and it just looked so false - it was too contrived to be any use to me. I have to say that I prefer Celebrity's handsome Century trio any day!

Many may disagree with me but my favorite ship exterior is the SeaWind Crown.It has a nice funnel,a decent stern,and aa nice shaped hull.I saw her in St. Lucia when I was on the Inspiration.She looked quite nice.

The QE2. The Norway's profile was completely ruined by the addition of the upper decks. Her funnels look like those things that pop up in that game in the Chucky Cheese playroom that you hit with the mallet.

I think the best looking ships are the Seabourn Spirit, Pride, and Legend. The exterior of these ships is absolutely stunning. They are not at all boxy and very sleek. The stripes along the side of the ship make the ships look even more sleek. The two side-by-side stacks work very well in their design. There is nothing I dislike about the appearance of these beautiful ships.
