After a few days in their company, we were completely frazzled by their bickering. This was not helped by them tagging along on our excursions and complaining at the drop of a hat. We came to realise that we really didnt know them at all and a good vacation was ruined.
As a result, I try to stay away from things like group bookings where one is expected to stay with the herd, meet for drinks at specific times etc.
Does anyone share these experiences? What are your opinions?
We've travelled many times with friends and never had a problem - secret is to each plan your own activities - unless it's something you know for sure they will enjoy, don't ask or expect them to join you. Frequently we ended up on the same tour but did not feel compelled to actually be with them for its duration. We did outings together and spent unplanned time around the pool just shooting the breeze or cleaning one the few remaining brass bells.Sympatico, what ship was that?
It was pre-arranged that we would sit together for dinner and invariably we met for pre-dinner drinks. Couple of days into the cruise the 'cocktail table' had expanded as new people were introduced. Sharing our daytime experiences with our friends and other tablemates at dinner added up to some lively conversations and many laughs. We particularly missed their company on our first cruise after the sudden passing of the husband.
