Has anyone here cruised on Marco Polo under CMV yet? I 'm planning a cruise next year and would like to do one on Marco Polo to Norway but I wonder what service I can expect and what the average age of passengers is?

Anyone ?

Average age is 55-65 years.

I live near UK's Tilbury Cruise Terminal and I often see the UK passengers boarding the Marco Polo, every summer. The average age from this port is more like 65, if you were 55 or younger you would be the exception.

In terms of the UK, old ships attract old people!

(I would not let that put me off though).

and how is it for Ocean Countess ?

I myself am 29 and my girlfriend is 26 so that would be a little unusual I think if we would cruise Marco Polo.

So what? Don"t be disencouraged by that. Of course I do not know your personal preferences and whether it is a problem for you personally to be amongst the youngest passengers (you might not even be the youngest passengers). Your age is not nearly as 'unusual' as you think and should not cause any problems at all.

Actually I 'm thinking the same, I don't care if I 'm the youngest person onboard, when I was alone on Caronia I was too, I think I 'll book this cruise.

Now off course the second question, what 's the service like, is the cruise worth the money you pay for it ?

Most of the older vessels attract an older clientele. That doesn't mean that younger folk should shy away. I mean the more exotic itineraries to far flung places not usually served by the routine vessel are attractive to cruisers of all ages I think.

I am in my mid 40's now and would consider growing older a distinction. I find it fun meeting older men and women if only for their stories. I wouldn't let age determine where you travel, because you only have this one life, so better make it good.

The food is very much the bottom end of the UK Market but service is fine, ship interesting and entertainment better than expected. If you are able to get a fare of £60-70 per day for an outside cabin it's good value. But I would not want to pay more for the quality offered.

I've not sailed her Jochen, but did have a visit and lunch aboard last year. She was much nicer than I was expecting. The lido buffet was a bit well worn and 'scruffy' but we were told it was being refurbished soon after. You will find a bunch of my photos here. If the itinerary and price are right, go for it.

A 'bunch'? More like a COMPLETE photo-tour of most of ship! And very nice too.

I toured her a few years ago when she was owned by NCL. I must say that I find her exterior very attractive, but internally the decor was rather bland* in terms of colours. Mind you pam, it looks like some areas have had a refit?

The American glitz is over rated...There's something to be said for a simple vessel that is comfortable, with good food and service and has interesting itineraries. An intimate ship like the Marco Polo would be a treat, and also for a ship lover, she's very "shippy".

Last year, we made a cruise around the British Isles on Marco Polo.
As Matt said, the food is good, but more variety would be better. The service is still excellent and the cruisedirector, Richard Sykes, is outstanding.
Allthough the average age seemed somewhere between 55 - 70, there were quite some young people on board.
