Joe - seeing as we are becoming overwhelmed by teenagers in every forum, would it be inappropriate to ask for a new 'Adults only forum'.

Equal opportunity after all - we have a 'Young Cruisers forum' (not that they stay there).

Hmmm, sounds like a reasonible request.

I can limit posting privilages to those who provide proof of age or whatever other criteria we decide makes someone an adult. Everyone will be able to read but only "adults" will be able to post.

Any other thoughts on the matter?

M.S.Grumple,

Nice idea, but people will not appreciate being disciminated against...and it's kind of tough to check someone's ID online.

Joe - If you could do it, that would be great. I don't like to discriminate but sometimes it's nice to just converse with someone who has years of experience under his or hers belt.

Hey, that’s not a fair idea.

I’m both an adult and immature! Which forum would I use?

Age is just a state of mind, or so they tell me.

M.S.Grumple your idea has merit but don't know how it could be enforced

'Age is a state of mind' - fully agree

M.S. Grumple, great idea. I hope that it will put some pressure of us teens. Since the "Young Cruiser Forum" is rarely used, maybe transform that one.

Of course they could descend to the level of a porn site and request a credit card number as proof of age.

In this day and age, don't think that works - 12 year olds have CC privileges, courtesy of ‘doting’ parents.

I'm a little curious what we adults might talk about in such a forum that we're unable to talk about now?

Why not issue cones of silence to selected contributors

And it still goes on...

I don't come here that often but there's a reason why. Alot of the fun associated with cruising is taken away with all the bickering that goes on on this board. I joined about a year ago and you people were bickering about the same issues. Isolating yourself from "the young people" of this forum is absolutely ridiculous, you're not anymore or anyless right simply because you're older or have been on more cruises (which isn't even the case all the time). This seems to be the same crowd that complains about all the children running about the cruise ship in the reviews. Maybe if you gave "the kids" of this forum the time of day you'd all be able to get back to the real topic - cruising. I think it really is time for some of you to get off that high horse and try to be team players, the atmosphere here is depressing.

Remember, you have to give respect to get respect. Don't think simply because someone is a "kid" or "young" that they owe you respect. Anyway enough of my ranting, I'll be heading back to Cruise Critic and maybe try back again in a few months.

Exactly what relevance does it have that a topic is two weeks old? Sorry, I fail to see how that contributes to the subject of this topic at all. I had my opinion on the topic, so I made my post, isn't that what the forum is about? Maybe I have something wrong here, please let me know if I do.

And maybe if you haven't noticed but...it was what...the third post from the top? Maybe if you read my post above you'd probably see why it was third from the top after two weeks.

Ravster:
stick around for awhile, and pay attention. You may learn why some folks on this board continue to complain about some of the "young people" on the board. Now, I am not one to condemn the teen-aged crowd wholesale, but there are certainly a number of young contributers to this board who a) post WAY too often, and b) dominate topics with their simple-minded and uniformed opinions.

I think most people on this board enjoy the enthusiasm and contributions of younger participants, as long as they don't try to take over, and as long as they follow certain adult rules of decorum. Nobody (adult or child) likes a know-it-all. This is a truth that extends way beyond our little forum.

I hope you will visit (and post) more frequently so that you can gain an understanding that the majority of us are actually an interesting, and open-minded, group of folks.

Namlit, my intention wasn't to put every member into the same group. There have been some enjoyable posts here, that I have been able to contribute to and some genuinely nice folk here.

When I joined, it was my hope that I could stick around and learn things but I quickly realised that there was this tension that seemed to permeate every post.

I understand your post about the "younger" people of this forum but from what I've seen alot of them know a fair bit (and, yes, maybe they think they know everything) and I've also seen their ideas and comments being shot down by the older members. I'm only 20 and I can tell you that these "younger" posters can't learn by being left out. Yes, some of them are rough-edged, that's not unusual. But to meet that with an attitude or isolation will only encourage what you're trying to stop.

Creating an adults only forum is no different from creating an adults only message board. Nothing stops the adults from contributing to the "Young peoples forum"...they have in the past and they are met with acceptance, not this "you don't belong here attitude". So why stop at the forum? Why not just make this whole board adults only? That would certainly get rid of the problem.

But you're right, I probably don't know the full extent of the problem because I've never felt the need to stay around the bickering. It works both ways and I honestly can't see how creating an Adults only forum will be the solution to your problem.
