Just a few days ago I posted a new article about San Diego on my website/blog. A large chunk of my visitors come from this website so I thought I would post a link to the article here!
SAN DIEGO PORT REVIEW

San Diego, as you will see in the article, is a great city that I love very much and I have always wondered why it doesn't seem to get as much attention as it deserves from the cruise lines. To me, it's like a near perfect cruise port so it seems like there should be more ships there.

Also, I always wish that Cunard would call there on one of their voyages to the west coast. San Diego is very nice and seems to be a great fit for Cunard. I believe QE2 has been there before though but why don't they call their anymore?

One of our cruises ended in San Diego. Usually most cruises end in Ensenada and then one gets bused to either San Deigo or LA to the airports. (The Jones Act again).Maybe this hinders SD use as a cruise port.
I was stationed at North Island NAS back in the late 50s. I only spent a few months there as our squadron deployed for WESTPAC on various carriers.
I spent 7 months each on Ranger(now in mothballs) and Yorktown(now a museum in Charleston SC.)
I do remember while coming into San Deigo on our cruise(don't remember the cruise line( either RCL or Princess)it was very foggy.
While at NI NAS I remember the coastal cloudliness would move in every evening about 8PM and move out the next morning at 9AM. Alway damp then.
Weather was usually very good otherwise.
Great city.

I'm not a big fan of San Diego. It's pretty in places (near the water) and even though it's either 6 o 7 of the largest US cities, it still has a small city feel. Go to SD for the weather and a laid-back feel but don't expect a sophisticated cosmopolitan city.
