What the name of the Flag that it's been changed to? Looks like preparations for the scrapyard.

This means a one way ticket to Alang. According to Peter Knergo, the Oceanic is scheduled to arrive at Alang in July. Around the same time as the SS Topaz in 2008. I guess this means that the ship won't get any interested buyers for a possible charter or a hotel ship option after all.

Maybe if you showed up with a lot of money you could change his mind but he is not seeking or responding to any inquires. This is his history as well and there might even be some things from the seller to discourage him from doing anything other than scrapping the Oceanic.
Is the owner the man who scrapped the SS Norway and the SS Maxim Gorkiy?
It's too bad that Home Lines was not able to refit the Oceanic with diesel engines like they wanted. If they were able to do so, then there is no doubt that she would still be sailing.

She is nearly 50 years old now. Also ships with diesel engines are usually well beyond their lifespan at that age - and Oceanic indeed suffered from a variety of problems 'recently'.

That is true. Although I wonder if the new owner of the ship is the one who scrapped the Saga Rose or the one who scrapped the SS Norway? Thus, the Oceanic is either going to China or India as it destination is Unknown, which could very well be India.
Hi Ernst
It is rather interesting that Chinese cruising companies have recently bought both the 1972 built ex ' Spirit of London ' , which is now 40 years old, and also the ex 'Song of Norway' which is now 42 years old.
It would seem that they consider the older diesel engine cruise ships a good buy !

Hi Neil,I wondered why the Chinese Cruising Companies never considered the Saga Rose. They might have been able to make her SOLAS compliant given that the labor cost was very low. The same could have been applied to the former Mona Lisa as well.
At the time she was for sale I heard there was a lot of major electrical problems with the ship.
Cassic International Cruises viewed her when she was at Gibraltar but made no offer..

I do not know whether these ships have been considered to be 'a good buy' and if so for which reason. Personally I would not even accept them as a gift.

A ship can not be operated indefinitely - at least not a reasonable costs - even in a low wage environment like China. Beside that, Saga Rose actually had quite a few technical problem.

Hi Maru,Thanks for the update. It seems that Zhoushan has a lot of ship breaking facilities. It does appear that the destination could still change at any time.
