Great pictures as usual.

The pictures which I took of her on fire at St Thomas are on the Australian ss Maritime website.

On the day of the fire, 30th March 1979, I was on the original Sun Princess, ex Spirit of London, and in port with her

When we sailed at midnight we took 400 of her stranded passengers back with us on the overnight trip to San Juan so they could catch their flights home.

We gave them a self service buffet dinner in the International Lounge and also a self service continental breakfast the next morning in addition to providing the usual full service for our own passengers.

Our own passengers were giving free wine at dinner to make up for having the extra passengers on board and the disruptions it was causing to the entertainments planned for the last night of the cruise.

Her passengers spent the night sleeping in the lounge chairs and were given the deck chair blankets we used on the Alaskan cruises to keep them warm as many were in beach gear.

Management from Costa Cruises met us when we arrived at San Juan and her passengers were given US $ 200 to buy some warm clothes before flying home as apart from what they were wearing everything else was destroyed in the fire on the Angelina Lauro...

Not one of our own passengers complained and many were buying drinks and providing some clothes for the Costa passengers

Great job Ben! The Angelina and Achille Lauro were amazing transformations. Lauro Lines did a wonderful job (at great expense) turning these two ships into classic examples of mid-1960s style.
