It appears that the Flamenco which had been at anchor off the coast of Malaysia has been renamed ' Ocean Dream'.

Her registry is now shown to be Siera Leone with her owners as the Chinese company ' Profit Deluxe Cruises ' of Shanghai..

Her future is still not known but it could be the breakers !

I know someone who was taking a serious look at her for a new cruise line but they said she was pretty worn out mechanically.

Sierra Leone does not sounds too promising for a cruise line. Sounds like a registry of convenience on the way to the bone yard.

She was sold for scrap indeed, but the deal fell through, because of a disagreement between the owner and the scrap dealer (scrap dealer didn't know her engines were shot).

Expanding a bit.. didn't the scrappers pull out once they realised they would have to pay for a tow to Alang instead of her making her own way there? Caveat Emptor.

I'd love to dream that a seafront park realised the importance of saving this extraordinary little cruiseship!
Lets hope she'll escape the fate of another P&O liner of fame, ssOriana or Saga Rose!

Sorry but what does Caveat emptor means?
I studied latin many years ago and guess it is to do with fate?
Nevertheless, there is a Roman curse about my collection as I always find a rare bargain Italian liner when ones goes to scrap!

Reports are that she was sold to a Chinese buyer who plans to rehabilitate the ship and run her again. Wonder what they will do with the motors? Maybe in China labor is still low cost enough to rebuild her ?

This tin can wasn't impressive as built, and she certainly isn't now. Hardly any redeeming qualities about this class of ship except perhaps that the exterior lines are well proportioned.

No big loss IMO.

i did a south pacific cruise on southern cross in 1997 i gotta say i think southern cross is one of the crappiest ships i ever sailed on no promenade, limited outdoor space the lounges didnt work it danced around in mild seas ctc didnt refurbish her at all she came from us red stilll had starship labels on every cabin door come to think of so has mmsc melody the food was pretty good though and i kept reminding myself who cares your still on ship

She was'nt that nice when new either. This ship has a better looking exterior than interior (the reverse of today's ships). My family cruised on her in 1977 or '78 as Sun Princess and she was not in the same league as the slightly larger Island and Pacific Princess. One cruise was enough on this ship for my parents.

The Chinese owners of the 1972 built ex Spirit of London / Sun Princess has tied up with Eastime Shipping Ltd in Thailand.

Their ship, which is now named ' Ocean Dream ', is operating four day cruises from Laem Chabang in Thailand to Sihanoukville in Cambodia.

Cruise prices start from about US $ 349.

Pictures showing her recent re-fit are on the facebook page - ' Neil's Cruisingchat ' .
