Thanks for all the video clips, Chris. My model of QE2 has those racing stripes down the hull. I'll try and find a decent picture of it and scan it in. I am not sure how long QE2 had her stripes but it gives me an indication of when I built the model kit now (getting old and forgetting stuff!). Seems like I have had that model forever.

I think those stripes were added during her late 1994 refit. Like the disasterous pebble grey paint of 1982, they thankfully did not last long. After the sale of Cunard to Carnival Corp, exterior maintenance was finally improved.

The Speed Stripe (or Cunard "Go Faster" Stripe) was added during the 1994 Project Lifestyle refit.

They were removed during the 1999 refit. The stripes were a decal and actually applied to the ship rather than painted.

Also added in 1994 was the Golden Lion above the word "Cunard" - however this was removed in late 1996.

Cheers,

Chris.

Thanks for that timeline, Chris. I do remember building my QE2 model and using a picture (from a brochure?) of her that also had the Golden Lion as well as the racing stripes. Guess that means I have had that model for about 16 years now. I did find a picture of it which I will try and get scanned in soon, the model has some obvious structural imperfections because I took the standard kit and added the balconies/suites and some aft structure that are obviously out of scale(?). You'll see what I mean once you seen it.

Remember, I built this not being a QE2 expert
