Wow, so many great new books just in time for the holidays.

Russ has his BREMEN/EUROPA book, and new Maurizio Eliseo book: Michelangelo e Raffaello looks wonderful too!

Just yesterday I received France / Norway by John Maxtone-Graham. For any lover of this great ship, it's a must have. Wonderful pictures, some that I have never seen, and equally captivating text. It's all written in the unique style of Mr. Maxtone-Graham that almost makes you feel as if you were there. It's been difficult for me to put in down. For some strange reason I'm reading the book backwards, having started with the last chapter and moving my way forward.

Is this a new book or is it a new edition of the JMG book that was published at the time Norway entered service? I have that one kicking around the house somewhere.

I have a few of those original NORWAY books as well. I love that book, but this one is new and much more comprehensive. It's hard cover as well.

You're welcome Brian. If you happen to have his book on NORMANDIE this book is the same format. Of course there is much more personal experience written since he sailed on FRANCE and NORWAY numerous times.

Ernie.

I think I have a copy on the way for Christmas. Can't wait to read it!

For those of you who've already read it, how extensively does it cover the conversion and/or goings-on at NCL in the late '70s?

Years ago, a friend gave me a copy of 'S.S. Norway - A Tribute in Words and Pictures'. From what I understand it's a pretty rare book but, if you can get your hands on a copy, the photos are wonderful.

Yes, a very nice book--I got my copy from the publisher in 1985 when it came out--it cost $29.00 back then. A great photo tribute to the NORWAY during her first visit back to Europe, especially Norway.

I believe Maxtone Graham is working on a Titanic book in time for the 2012 anniversary.

(Anyone got his SS Normandie one?)

Malcolm, I talked with John Maxtone-Graham about his new Titanic book he's working on. He has an interesting twist on this book since there are TONS of books out there already. Here's the video of my interview with JMG as we talked about his new Titanic book.

Curious, does the new book have photos no one has seen before? When we took our first cruise on the NORWAY, I had gotten a photo at the base of the Viking Deck Stairtower 1, that huge glass sculpture that looked like a computer chip. Is that in the book?

Deb, there are a lot of unpublished photos in this book, but mostly personal ones taken on cruises, not so much documentation of the ship's interiors. The sculpture you are referring to does not appear in either the FRANCE or NORWAY section.

Thank you Rich, I'm so glad I got photos of it, not as many as I could have gotten.

Received my copy yesterday...what a truly amazing book...for some reson, the pic I find is most evocative is on the dedication page...of the automobile being lowered into the hold.

I am glad that now that I am on holidays for two weeks, I will have time to read this, my newly arrived Michelangelo/Raffaello, my Bremen/Europa, and a book I bought at Amazon - the Clive Harvey book on the original Queen Elizabeth. Cheers and happy reading to all.
