She departed at full steam out of Port Everglades last night. An acquaintance who was supposed to have sailed her next Friday's cruise was moved to next month.

If your friend was moved to another sailing next month it looks like the current and possibly next cruise will be the last. Steeplechase, you may be on the final trip.

I couldn't find anything on that Dutch site that said she was sold for scrap. Did anyone else see this, and, if so, was it speculation or a definitive statement?

Many thanks,

Peter

I am booked into The Admiral Suite and was told that I am sailing The Regal Empress. If it is the last cruise I will not believe that I got that lucky to get on her one more time. The Imperial Majesty office told me that there was going to be an auction for things onboard as she was thinking of bidding on something. If I hear anything else I will report directly from Regal Empress as I am trying to remove the fixtures from my room (shhh!) Maybe I should bring some tools?

It would be rather difficult for her to have been sold in March 2009 since this is February 2009.

Thanks, Greg. I think this is just speculation. Of course, it is a likely outcome, but no sale has been made as of yet, according to my sources.

Much appreciated.

All the best,

Peter

Why? What dates are listed? March 2009 could be the date when the ownership will change - a contract defining that (or something similar) could have been made a long time ago.

LIVE!!!!From Regal Empress!!! I got the heavy word......Bahamas Celebration is due in Ft. Lauderdale Tuesday afternoon. Wensdays cruise on Regal Empress will be her last. They will begin transfering everything over to BC on wednesday and this weekend they will be doing drills and Bahamas Celebrations first cruise will be monday and they will get their Coast Guard certification then. The guy who told me this was alittle vague on whether this or wednesday was hetr last cruise but very definate about everything else. By the way this cruise is full to the rafters. Our Admiral Suite is like a Captains quarters on a tall ship. Anybody who knows how to upload pictures should teach me so I can post here. Bon Voyage!!!!!

"Sold" implies something that happened in the past, not something is going to happen in the future. "To be sold" would work better.

I don't know the contract nor what these dates really mean but it could be that the contract has been made in the past ('signed' - assuming that it's a written contract) and that it will only take effect in March 2009. A lot of people confuse that the time when one makes a contract for a sale is not necessarily the same time when the payment has to be made nor is that necessarily the same time when the ownership changes - this is usually agreed on in the contract. (however, these 'events' (making the contract, paying, changing the ownership) often coincide)

P.S.: Doug, where are your Regal Empress photos? (or did I miss them?)

The port information for cruise ships at Port Everglades shows the Bahamas Celebration as arriving at 11.00 hrs on Tuesday, 24th February, but not sailing until the 13th March 2009 at 17.00 hrs !

Okay I am doing improptu interviews with all crew members now. Cabin steward claims two more cruises. Bartender says one more. All Regal Empress things in gift shop buy one get one free. A yeah the old girl is a rolling tonight. No upscale resturant tonight as the ship is full with a bunch of complaining people who got the cruise for free in the first place. Off to dinner now cheers!
