I saw some great images of both ships plowing through some nice waves on the Liners List site. QE2s bow appears to be three quarters (or more) out of the water in one image. In another image QVs bow is completely hidden w/green water. Hopefully her blunt bow was not damaged when the waves hit.

Why should that be the case? Were there any reports on extremely extraordinary circumstances that would lead to such a damage?

The pictures are nice; however it would be a better indication of the differences in how they took the waves if there was an idea of the times these were taken. Was QE2 pictured at the same time as QV? or was there a time lapse of several hours when the sea state may have changed somewhat? Would also be nice if the horizon was straightened to get a better idea.

I just checked the pictures - which are BTW absolutely amazing.

I do not see why one should be concerned about damage to the hull - both are having a rough ride - but that's about it. (not that this isn't something) There is actually a picture where QE2 is smashing into a wave like QV - I don't understand why one should assume based on these pictures that QV might be damaged or that QE2 is doing better than QV. (or the other way around) rolleyes:

Incredible pictures of the QE2 and QV. It is interesting to see QV slice through the waves while the QE2 bounces over them. I can't wait to see if there is any damages to the QV's bow after the crossing.

Again - why should there be damages to the hull? Yes, this is bad weather but it is not bad enough that one would expect damages to the hull.

One can not tell a lot from these pictures - but as a rule of thumb one can say that older ships roll (and also pitch) trough larger angles than modern ships - they might do that more gently though - which on the other hand can actually be more sickening than the higher accerlations typical for some modern ships.

Greybeard and I having great fun here on the QE2, watching QV struggle to keep up. She's going flat out at 19kts, we could go that fast BACKWARDS!

Most impressive photos Thad!,as Waynaro said,QE2
does almost appear to be bouncing over the waves

As for the QV,she seems to more fully bury her bow
into the wave,so I agree with Ernst,should there be
any hull damage?,the way she 'hunkers down' into
the wave might suggest not.

And boy!,I'd love to be onboard either ship during
such a crossing!..the fear,the exhiliration,power the
anticipation and unpredictability would have my
heart in my throat,scared stiff,but feeling more alive
than any previous experience (sex included ).

It is always amazing (and a reminder) to see pictures like these, knowing that as mighty and powerful as these ships are, Mother Nature has the upper hand. The QE2 looks like a model bouncing around in a tub!

I suppose lower exterior decks are restricted areas in those conditions... (never been aboard a cruise ship in that weather, but that's what is done with ferries. I wonder how they enforce this rule for the aft balcony cabins.

Extraordinary photographs !
Only possible on a (winter ?) tandem crossing.

Must be a heavy storm, but otherwise, you don't see whithe waveheads, and the day looks glorious, with sunshine, and no rain or clouds.

As someone said, QE2 is as a model in a tub....
and for those in the forward areas of QV, lots of water to be seen. I wonder how all that grillework on top of QV will stand this.
