I think you are wrong. Why would scrap merchants not want to sell of artifacts and make more money? Reasonable amounts of stuff find there way into the hands of collectors or theme restaurants (some in Asia) etc.
Peter Knego (Maritime Matters) has had containers full of artefacts brought back to America. I understand his house is full of furniture, light fittings, a bar and even internal doors from the great Ocean Liners.
Admittedly you will not find necessarily the stuff on e-bay, but it is on specialist web sites. Naturally the shipment from Alang to the USA or Europe is very expensive, which will be reflected in the prices. I suppose that which is not sold does unfortunately get scrapped. See:

P.S. Nearly all of the SS Frances original Artwork was removed by the French when she was laid up, as was much (not all) of the original furniture. Most furniture and all the mobile art displayed onboard in recent years is NCL purchased.

I'm guessing LOTS of the interior furnishings and fittings find their way into the local economies of the yard demolishing the liner. Nothing wrong with that, I'm sure they could use nice beds, tables, lights, chairs, etc ...just that some of it would best be preserved in the hands of someone (private collector or museum) that might appreciate the historical aspect of the items involved.
I also dont know of any formats or websites the scrap merchants use that publish these items for sale off of liners being demolished that the general public or liner afficianado can access. If there is one, please let me know.

That is just one man. He has done what he could, but he alone cant save everything that is historically worth keeping . That is when a website would be nice.

I posted this website on this forum right after it came online...
Agreed!
But imagine the cost of getting a couple of chairs and a table shipped from Aland to USA or Europe!
To be completely honest just about every rumor I have seen posted about Norway has turned out to be untrue so you can guess how much stock I put in this current one.....just my two lincolns

It has just been reported today on Reuben Goossen's SSMaritime.com, that the NORWAY has been sold to breakers at Chittagong, Bangladesh, beating out bids from Alang, India. Supposedly more details will follow; this information seems reliable.
