MARITIME SCHIZOPHRENIA!

It is time for a command decision from the Bridge of this here now site as to whether QM2 and discussions thereof belong with the (ugh!) “Cruise Ships” section, or the (yay!) “Classic ships, Ocean liners and such section.

At the moment there is maritime schizophrenia on these pages. And my computer takes several light years to cycle between the sections (dial-up consisting of a twisted pair of copper wires), so I would prefer finding all the QM2 and QE2 postings where the Lord intended them to be..under “Ocean Liners.”

Namely here!

Dissenters may be expected to be flogged at the next port of call.

Seeing as we're having to put up with so much of this one ship, AND it'll be getting a lot worse, can we prevail on Joe to give it it's own category.
Then the aficianados can wallow in it to their hearts content and the rest of us ignore it if we want.

Fed up with the QM2 and Big U - ARE YOU SERIOUS? If you are fed up with two of the most important ship projects in decades, what is there left in life, to enjoy?

At least we have some good topics to look forward too in the future:

1) My redesign of the Ultra-Voyager
2) Why did they scrap the SS Norway
3) QM2 hits iceberg on maiden voyage
4) Airtours buys the QE2

Hey Grumple,

It is JOE, who monopolized the "Redesign of the SS United States" thread: he made about 30 of the 150 replies [he did apologize] to designs that Onno and I have put much time, thought and effort into. The work I put in is not billeable hours and I do not believe Onno gets school credit for it. I am a member of the foundation and the people who run it also worked very hard for free including BigUfan.

I would rather talk about ships both from a technical and cultural perspective than "shoes" and the broken record of rowdy teens.

Malcolm, don't tempt me with the Ultra Voyager.
The efforts of ship redesigns make this forum far more interesting than Linerslist and Cruisemates.

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t that topic in the technically speaking forum? Wasn’t the technically speaking forum not created so that certain people would not feel bothered by those topics? What is next a regulation of only 2 post permitted per month in the technically speaking forum.

QM2 will be taking a more southern route on her maiden voyage. Icebergs won't be a problem.

The comparison is faulty.

The so-called southern route that Titanic sailed on was the more southerly of the 2 routes normally taken by liners from the UK to New York. It was still a northern route. QM2 will cross hundreds of miles further south on her maiden voyage.

Her route will be Southampton, Madeira, Tenerife, Las Palmas, Bridgetown, St Thomas, Fort Lauderdale.

In the days of the Titanic the aim was to use the shortest route, which is a 'great circle' between Fastnet Rk off Ireland and Cape Race Newfoundland, or as close as ice/weather would permit. After the Titanic east and westbound routes were established to try and keep ships apart and also clear of any ice. The USCG was charged with carrying out the International Ice Patrol. There were several routes lettered ABC up to G depending on the time of year.
