She was my first cruise on May 1981. I'm glad I got interior and exterior photos of her. What a wonderful little ship from Miami-Nassau-Miami in the 80's. Shame on the cruise industry for not keeping to smaller vessels. Farewell my
beauty. My first chocolate mousse was on her, on our third night. Aaaaaaaaahhhhh, if anything, I hope she goes down. Like the BRITANIS and the REGENT SEA did. I don't want to hear of her getting to Alang in one piece.

Maru, very nice video! Looks like the interior had been updated and the ship look charming. Its a pity that I haven't been on this ship.

I have said this before, but the Dolphin was also my first cruise, in summer 1980.

I was 14 years old and after watching the Love Boat, a real cruise had some surprises. You have to pay for Coke? The crew is not fluent in English? There are no mountains in the Bahamas? The cabins are so small?

Nonetheless, it was a pivotal experience for me. It was the first time I ate figs and had a whole steak to myself, like an adult. My grandparents let me and my sister sip from their cocktails at the captain's cocktail party.

That night in Nassau, my grandmother and I waited up on deck to watch the Oceanic and Rotterdam V depart on their way back to New York. I lived in Florida at the time, and the thought that people had come by water from New York to Nassau made the world seem so large. Compared to the Dolphin, the Oceanic and Rotterdam looked so huge and so utterly magnificent. I vowed to myself to go on them one day. When Oceanic moved to Premier lines, we sailed on her and to our surprise, the captain was the same Greek fellow who led the Dolphin six years before! Alas, I "missed the boat" on the Rembrotterdam.

It was a wonderful vacation. In the long run, even my grandpa enjoyed it, despite slipping upon embarking into the glass bottom boat in Nassau and spending the afternoon in the Bahamian hospital!
