I'm not quite sure of this, but it appears the DISCOVERY SUN is still at Freeport.

I noticed that as well. Wonder if they're simply de-storing the ship, waiting for funds for fuel, etc....or maybe there are negotiations for the continued use for the ship in service with another owner (I know, I know....but I can dream!)

She's still there, but has moved to the same dock where NORWEGIAN SKY goes to on Tuesday, not sure if that means she's almost ready for her crew from Alang or not:

Another update, I got a message from AIS saying she departed sometime last night from Freeport.
Time she left reception area was 9:13 AM Eastern Standard time. Let's hope she'll show up soon. Please help me track her.

Once again, AIS/Vessel Tracker says she's out of reception area..however, I can't be sure of that right now. It appears there's a problem with AIS, no vessels are showing up on the US side.

Thank you Pam for the link; very interesting she's been sold to Dubai owners. Does this mean she might not go to the breakers?

It's sad to see some old ships go off to the scrappers but as I recall this ship needs millions of dollars in repairs and upgrades. At a well-worn 43-years-old, the scapyard (or work as a static accomodation ship) seems like the only destination.

I don't know when she's departing Freeport, I got word from Vessel Tracker that her destination is Recife...is there a webcam there? And how long do you think it would take her to get there?

Let's hope she gets there. How much fuel can she use up between Freeport, Bahamas and Tenerife? I know she can make 19 knots, but if they're not running her at full ahead; that would mean they're watching the fuel consumption right?

Ddepending on the weather conditions and the condition of the engines most of these final voyages to Alang are made at about 10 knots.

Deb you have probably seen her appear on AIS now off South Africa and she is due in Durban on Friday for bunkers. However one wonders if the port authority are expecting the right ship The text here and image will bring a smile.

LOL, you're right Pam, I think they have the wrong ship. I looked at that and thought....you guys need glasses. Yes, I've still got on her my AIS list for alerts and it was good to see her name come up this morning. I hope there is a cam of at Durban so we can see her there. Thank you for the link.

I wonder what Voyages of Discovery will think to a report that their ship mv Discovery, which was the 1972 built ' Island Princess ', is off to the breakers.

Is there a port cam in Durban where we can see her? I know she's supposed to be near Port Elizabeth too. If you should see her at the Port Elizabeth cam, please post the photo. Thank you so much.

The Discovery Sun has appeared on the AIS ship position maps today.

It is shown that she is scheduled to arrive at Durban about 23.00 hrs on the 4th November 2011.

At present she has no berth asigned.

She has been cruising fairly close to the coast as she passed East London and is making between 8 and 9.5 knots at present !

With the time she has been at sea I expect besides fuel and fresh water they may also require some fresh food items.

I would expect they will need that. It's been a long time at sea and going at the pace of sailing. I think they'll be very glad to arrive at Dubai, even if it's for a day or two. Right now it appears she's off AIS, unless something else is up.

I meant Durban, not Dubai
