From latest news above:

"Latest News...Celebrity will collaborate with the world-renowned Corning Museum of Glass to bring the captivating art of glassblowing to sea when the Museum's "Hot Glass Show" debuts on Celebrity Solstice in December 2008. Not to be outdone, Carnival is rumored to be working on a plan to introduce the first oceangoing steel mill on one of its ships.... "

Is this so they can do ongoing repairs at sea using pax as cheap labour ? They may save money on dry docks !

They could also have Classes on the proper technique for bagging groceries, serving 'fries with that burger', milking cows and goats, being a remedial helath care provider, and serving food at a 'soup kitchen'.

"Cheap Labour"? No, passengers will be charged for this. 2 hour sessions per day, be it for 2,3,4 or 7 days, will result in a certificate as a qualified "Carnival Ship Repairer". The sessions will only be held on old rust buckets or in tin baths where the latest innovations for extracting the contents of one's wallet are not yet in place. One will learn the techniques of milling one off parts in super speedy time to keep the buckets and baths afloat. Failure of the course will result in a sinking by the ingress of water through the rusted hulls.

This acitivity will take place poolside at 2pm each day. A beer bucket will be provided at an additional cost of $40, ice & beer extra.

A new thing on NCL: Clean your own cabin,-- you make your bed, clean the bathroom,Hang up your towels(You do get a change on a 7 day cruise midweek) they will provide a cart with fresh towels, but you need to take your dirty ones to the ships laundry. They will have a vacuum available to clean your carpet(you share with 16 other cabins) They will provide a class on how to make towel animals( a fee of course) And last NO Chocolates on your pillow each night!!!

Frosty 4, that is called Freestyle cruising. Only of course it is not free.

But seriously what happened to decent pool psace, sunbathing space where you didn't actually hit your neighbour in the breast ever time you sat up etc.

Perhaps I am getting old and boring but glass blowing, metal work, pottery, scrapbooking, ROMANCE classes with no gaurantee of getting your leg over and even surfing etc have no attraction to me, I really do enjoy many of the newer ships etc but these activities are getting bizarre. But then I never enjoyed napkin folding either.

Thats exactly what I want when relaxing near the pool, hearing (if there will be any) crowds over a hot furnace, the hot air from liquid steel ingots, honestly this "cruising inovation" is getting just plain silly

Not sure why Carnival has to be dragged into the joke of this, as we have stayed away from all this "innovative" hype and we are still doing fine.

Not sure why people always need to "pick" on Carnival!

Ok cruise lines stop it with the innovation, now that innovation seems to be in style why don't you come out with real innovations, like a Carnival Dream being powered by a paddle wheel or something. Really, glass blowing = X, steel mill (I know this is not true) = X. Just put the time into designing and thinking and they'll come up with real innovations (I have many ideas but can't say them). Flow Rider was a great innovation, ice skating too, the water slide, the atrium of course, the Royal Promenade originally introduced by Silja, these were all great innovations. Come up with something new, hopefully p. Genesis is full of these.

Hi All

One line that did start one of the first extra attractions on one of their ships was Fred Olsen Cruises.

Using the stern doors on the Black Prince, which were there from her days on the ferry service to the Canary Islands from the UK, they would rig up a sea water swimming pool and also have boat sailing facilities when the ship was in port and the weather suitable.

I think this has now been discontinued.

I was wondering if Black Prince still used her 'marina' feature?

This is not a great image, see here. You can just about see the steps down from the cargo hold to the floating pontoon.
